The Position
We’re looking for experienced Support Workers and Team Leaders to deliver our adventure mentor programs and support services.
As a Disability Support Worker at Young Mindz, you'll help implement our adventure-based mentor programs which are inspired by mindfulness, meditation, and breathwork, to help foster emotional and psychological growth while promoting confidence, self-esteem, and effective communication. These programs are transformative experiences that involve overnight and day trips, combining adventure activities with nature.
You’ll also be responsible for supporting participants with their daily living tasks such as providing personal care, assisting with meal preparation, and assisting them with community access.
Both Support Worker and Team Leader roles are available.
Role tasks & responsibilities
- Assist participants with overnight adventure programs on respite trips.
- Nurture a positive environment that is fun and engaging while participating in outdoor activities and community events.
- Provide personal care and support, plus development of life skills.
- Deal with complex behaviours and emotions.
- Assist participants to resolve points of crisis in their lives.
- Ensure supports are provided to assist participants to achieve their goals.
- Encourage and build confidence through positive self-talk, affirmations, mindfulness, breathwork, emotional regulation tools and programs. (training provided)
- Complete progress notes on support sessions
Qualifications & experience
- You will have a minimum of 2 years experience in a support role with disability
- Experience working with high intensity and complex behaviour youth.
- You have valid First Aid and CPR (or are willing to obtain them)
- You hold a valid Working with Children Check (or are willing to obtain one)
- You will have a current driver's licence and registered vehicle
- You will have strong leadership skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency with technology.
- A Certificate IV in mental health is ideal but not mandatory
