Disability Support Worker - Therapeutic Care Specialist

We are seeking candidates to join our Therapeutic Care Specialists team to work within our Direct Care Services area. Direct Care Services at Hability provide support to individuals that experience complex and enduring psychosocial disabilities.

About Us

Hability is an NDIS registered behavioural and psychological intervention services provider, specialising in the development and implementation of tailored, individual needs-based, behavioural interventions for children, young people, and adults whose quality of life is severely impacted by a wide range of complex needs including Neuro-Developmental and Cognitive Disorders, Acquired Brain Injury, Intellectual Disability, and co-morbid mental health diagnoses.

About the role

We are seeking Disability Support Workers - Therapeutic Care Specialists for our Supported Independent Living (SIL) Accommodation Services as well as our Community Engagement Outreach Services. Our SIL accommodations support people living with severe, complex, and enduring psychosocial disabilities. 

SIL services work collaboratively with participants by providing personalised one-to-one or two-to-one support, with a goal to support them to engage and enhance their daily living skills, strengthen relationships with families and carers, enhance social connections and community networks, and grow confidence and capacity to live safely in the community.

  • The role involves working with complex care needs and moderate to high challenging behaviours.
  • SIL and Community Outreach can and will present a uniquely challenging environment that requires commitment to long term positive behaviour engagement and redirection.
  • Commitment to engaging with services within the scope of client positive behaviour support plans, individual behaviour protocols and programs.
  • Providing intensive daily support to both young people and adults engaging with Hability services.
  • You will be working alongside a team of Therapeutic Care Specialists across several sites within the Newcastle region.
  • Detailed case noting, progress reporting, incident reporting and other data capturing requirements during shifts.
  • Assistive with daily living including personal care, manual handling, and medications.
  • On-going training and supports are provided as a pathway to a permanent part-time contract where mutually agreed.

About you

We are seeking a team of empathetic, self-motivated Disability Support Workers - Therapeutic Care Specialists on a casual basis, with the opportunity to move to a permanent part-time contract where agreed. This is an opportunity to work alongside a passionate and professional team on a 24/7 rotating roster in the Newcastle area. You will provide participants with positive, person-centred services to support them to achieve their well-being goals, build life skills, strengthen social relationships, enhance support networks, and build capacity to live independently.

  • You show passion and commitment and the capacity to problem solve.
  • Demonstrate sound computer knowledge and have competent administrative and documentation skills.

Necessary Qualifications

Whilst there are no formal qualifications required to be successful in this role, relevant skills, experience and education in this area may set you apart from the rest. The successful candidate must be available to attend our head office in Mayfield for training. On-going extensive training and support will be provided as a pathway to a permanent part-time / full-time contract where mutually agreed.

Essential Criteria

  • Willing to work shift work including availability across days, weekends, nights, active/inactive overnights across a 24/7 roster.
  • A current Australian Drivers Licence.
  • Willing to transport clients and staff in a company provided car where required.
  • Hold a current First Aid/CPR certificate or be willing to obtain prior to commencement.
  • Hold a current Working With Children Check and an NDIS Worker Screening Check or be willing to obtain one prior to commencement.
  • Willingness to undergo a National Police Check upon employment.

Desirable Criteria

  • A VET qualification in relevant disciplines of; Community Services, Childcare, Education, Disability, Mental Health services or alike.
  • Demonstrated understanding of Positive Behaviour Support strategies and plan implementation.
  • Experience supporting adults or young people with challenging behaviours, Complex Trauma, PTSD, substance misuse and conduct disorder.
  • Experience with supporting activities of daily living including personal care, manual handling, and medications.
