About ELMHS

ELMHS provides a range of Mental Health services to pregnant mothers, infants, children and adolescents and their families within the Southern Region.

The organisational and clinical model has been developed to provide Mental Health care that is flexible and responsive to the individual and developmental needs of the perinatal to youth populations and their families.  As such, this model will support the provision of integrated Mental Health care for young people, guided by consistent, service-wide protocols and principles of care.

About the role

Are you an experienced Social Worker with extensive experience working with parents and infants, children, adolescents and/or young people?

The Discipline Senior Social Work leads and provides professional governance to all ELMHS Social Workers. The Discipline Senior will have extensive clinical expertise in Mental Health care and in working with young people, their families and carers. The Discipline Senior will be responsible for leading the ongoing development, implementation, monitoring and review of Social Work service provision in accordance with Social Work Australia standards and ethics.  The incumbent will provide direct services, supervise and lead Social Workers in both discipline specific and generic roles and contribute to policy and service development. The role will also involve clinical time within the iACT/ Access Team.

As a member of the Early in Life Mental Health Service Management Team the Discipline Senior Social Work provides a number of senior functions within, in summary these include:

  • Professional Governance for all Social Workers within the Early in Life Mental Health Service.
  • Responsibility for the development and implementation of workforce plans for Social Workers.
  • Linkage between Early in Life Mental Health Service and Academic Institutions.
  • Responsibility for appropriate discipline specific evidence-based clinical interventions including resources.
  • Senior Clinical role within the iACT (Intake, Assessment, Consultation and brief Treatment Team particularly in the Discipline Specific Assessment Clinic)

About you

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in Perinatal and Infant, Child, Adolescent and Youth Mental Health Services and/or extensive Social Work experience in a related area.
  • Extensive experience in a senior clinical and/or senior managerial role
  • Sound knowledge of the National Practice Standards for the Mental Health Workforce 2013
  • Bachelor of Social Work or Masters Social Work Qualifying OR Masters of Social Work, OR equivalent as assessed and approved by the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)  
  • Written evidence of eligibility for AASW membership for overseas qualifications is required.  
  • Completion of a post graduate qualification in a relevant field 
  • Accredited Social Worker and/or Accredited Mental HealthSocial Worker: As approved by the AASW
