Dog Walker

Our busy Dog Walking service continues to grow and we are excited to be searching for another Dog Walker to join our amazing team. Successful candidates will be asked for a resume, cover letter and references that address the criteria below.

The successful candidate must have: 

• A valid driver's licence, 
• current police check, 
• A smart phone (ideally Apple)
• Animal industry experience, ideally with dogs

Hours:

• You will work Monday to Friday. 
• 7:30am to approx 1pm required 
• Afternoon shifts available, depending on schedule.

Location: 

The Dog Walker role is based around inner Melbourne suburbs. Applicants who are located within 30 mins of Richmond will be given first preference (applicants further than 60 minutes drive away need not apply).

Role Description:

• Conduct a 2 hour group walk with 6 dogs
• Maintain dogs safety at all times, supervise, engage with and train dogs during walking
• Assess hazardous situations and read dog body language to prevent accidents
• Transport dogs to and from their home (in the company van). This role involves a lot of driving, so you must be confident behind the wheel
• Communicate with clients, colleagues and management in a timely and professional manner
• Care for and spot clean dogs after the walk. 
• Maintain work vehicle and all equipment in a clean and safe manner.
• Act in a professional manner at all times while representing the business. Advise management and owners of injuries or behavioural issues. 
• Follow all council by-laws including learning on/off leash park locations and collecting dog waste.

Experience, skills and attributes required:

• The successful applicant will have experience dealing with various breeds and sizes of dogs, ideally also have experience in the animal industry. Please note, owning your own cats and dogs is not considered experience. Knowledge of dog behaviour and body language is essential.
• The ability to work and drive in all weather conditions is a must. 
• You must be able to use a smart phone and be professional and respectful with all communications with both clients and colleagues. 
• This role is both physically demanding and fast paced, keeping fit is imperative to ensuring this role is suitable for you.

Prerequisite skills:

You must be able to: 

• work autonomously
• communicate effectively and respectfully with all colleagues and clients.
• read maps/GPS and use smart phone applications
• be willing to learn and understand dog behaviour
• supply a current police check should you be invited for an interview
• must be able to think quickly on their feet and high level of attention to detail.

Please note: 

• This role is physically demanding, with the need to be able to move quickly and safely. You need to have at least a moderate level of physical fitness. 
• Safety is paramount in this role. As the walker will have animals in their care, the safety of both the Walker and the animals must always be their first priority. The ability to constantly be aware is essential.
