Domain Architect - Hybrid Infrastructure Services
Req ID: 64000
Department: Tech A&E Engineering & Platforms
Division: Technology
Location: Sydney
About the role
As the Domain Architect for ANZ’s Hybrid Infrastructure Services, you will lead architecture and co-ordinate strategy for a significant portion
of our technology landscape. This predominantly includes our global networks, co-located compute and storage, as well as public cloud
solutions from AWS, GCP and Azure. This role also has a significant investment in working collaboratively with our Cybersecurity team,
although no direct responsibility for security architecture, leadership of which is provided from a peer role to this role. You will succeed by
establishing a trusted technical advisor relationship working very closely with our Domain Leads for Infrastructure and Cloud. You’ll draw on
your deep and broad technical expertise, coupled with your ability to engage commercially, translating seamlessly between business
strategy, architecture and requirements, and technical solutions. You’ll be able to pragmatically guide technical architects to deliver options,
recommendations and solutions, aligned to roadmaps and technical strategy that you maintain. You will engage regularly with your peers
and the business facing Domain Architects to ensure alignment, reuse and scalability of solutions across the group. You’ll be an inspiring
thought leader, and have an executive presence, capable of senior executive communication, and co-authoring board papers.
What will your day look like
• Establishing and maintaining collaborative trusted advisor relationships with domain leaders for networking, infrastructure, and
cloud.
• Establishing and maintaining collaborative peer relationships with the Domain Architecture community and the business Domain
Leads as necessary, as well as relevant leaders in our Cybersecurity domain.
• Leading, Guiding and Co-ordinating the delivery, update and maintenance of domain specific technical strategy and technology
roadmaps, including business case support and investment planning activities.
• Developing and supporting compelling and pragmatic architecture artefacts that are required to set clear direction, enabling
delivery teams to move at pace while ensuring group wide alignment and balanced pace.
• Work closely with the architects in our Cloud, Data and Infrastructure Services teams to guide their approach towards
pragmatically balancing the needs of the domain with the needs of the business. Note that the technical, solution and application
architects in this domain are only dotted-line reports. Their people management is not your accountability.
• Provide thought leadership as a member of the CTO Architecture and Engineering extended leadership team. This may include for
example contributing towards enterprise governance, assurance practices, processes, standards.
• Operating an architecture assurance function that is compliant with regulatory requirements, as part of a federated architecture
operating model.
• Leading Architecture work on extensive strategic initiatives including Accelerated Engineering – the Bank’s move to Cloud, as well
as our Data Centre Exit program.
What will you bring?
The ‘must have’ knowledge, skill and experience (KSE) the role requires are:
• A technically deep background in two or ideally more of the domain skillsets (Networking, Security, Compute, Storage, Cloud).
• A broad, working technical knowledge of most of the domain skillsets, with a strong desire to continually learn and improve skills,
a strategic “big picture” thinker, comfortable with ambiguity and solving problems.
• Extensive experience in architecture as practiced in large enterprises – process, enablement, governance, socialisation,
communication, note that this doesn’t mean TOGAF certification.
• Extensive experience in technical vendor management, including support of commercial contract renewals, sourcing of new
vendors, analysis of vendor fit to solution requirements, and during major programs of change.
• Highly proficient in leading by influencing, managing stakeholder relationships, expectations, and requirements.
• Working knowledge of modern hybrid-cloud infrastructure requirements, and an emphasis on resilience, reliability engineering,
security and sustainability.
• Skilled at coaching and mentoring developing architects to encourage curiosity, safe spaces for debate, and a desire for
continuous improvement.
