About the Role

This is a 12-month contract subject to a 3-month probation period.
The primary responsibility of this position is to provide centre based support to women who are experiencing Domestic Violence and/or homelessness.
Assistance is provided in the form of crisis intervention; centre based and outreach case management, information, referrals and practical assistance.
This is a fast-paced environment that requires a person with a high level of flexibility and excellent communication skills.
Qualifications & Experience
- A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or Human Services is preferred.
- A Blue Card (authorisation by the Commission for Children & Young People to work under 18 year olds) is required.
- Willingness to undergo a Police Check is required.
- Current drivers license is required.
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrate a high level of written and spoken communication and interpersonal skills. Including the ability to advocate on behalf of clients, work cooperatively and within a team.
- Working knowledge of guidelines or statutory requirements relevant to domestic and family violence work.
- Demonstrated skills in providing client centred support to women and their children experiencing homelessness and/or domestic and family violence.
- Demonstrated understanding of the effects and causes of Domestic Violence, including knowledge of cultural differences and needs of First Nations Women.
Tasks & Responsibilities
- Provide culturally appropriate crisis intervention including intake and assessment, information, and case management.
- Conduct comprehensive risk and safety assessments.
- Collaborate with victim-survivors of Domestic Violence to create safety plans tailored to their specific situations, including identifying safe places, emergency contacts, and strategies for leaving unsafe situations.
- Provide appropriate crisis support, information, referral, and advocacy to women contacting the service.
- Prepare and maintain appropriate, accurate and confidential records of client work. Including case notes, safety plans and statistical data.
- Undertake administrative tasks relevant to the position and assist in the general operations of the service.
