The Role
The Drafting Technician is responsible for transforming data, diagrams and maps into informative, technical illustrations for inclusion in SCT’s geotechnical engineering reports, technical papers and presentations.
The successful candidate will:
- Support business needs for drafting and design requirements.
- Prepare technical illustrations, maps, and diagrams for insertion into technical reports, technical papers and presentations.
- Interpret data from a range of sources including excel, schematics, models, CAD programs (eg. AutoCAD, GIS programs).
- Liaise and coordinate with consultants to understand drafting requirements.
- Provide timely support and manage expectations to ensure reporting deadlines are achieved.
- Assist with design and drawing preparation for part manufacture, including 3D printing of prototypes and parts.
- Maintain highest quality and drafting standards.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards.
This is a part-time position based in Wollongong. Hours are flexible and can be negotiated to suit the right candidate.

- Demonstrated competency in any graphic design or CAD software.
- Mathematically inclined with understanding of technical and engineering concepts to solve problems.
- Team player who thrives on providing support to a team.
- High levels of accuracy and very strong attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn on the job, take initiative and be solutions focussed.
- Eager to produce visually appealing figures and graphs.
- Systematic approach to follow processes, standards or systems.
- Confidence asking question and ability to clarify requirements.
- Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Adaptable with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Effective time management and able to prioritise and work under pressure.
- Experience using Inventor and 3D printing is an advantage, but not essential.
