The role
Stantec's Geosciences division provides a range of first-class services in geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering and construction materials testing. We are currently looking to recruit drilling offsider to join our team of technical professionals in our Mackay office.
You will be based in our Stantec Mackay office which houses our North Queensland geotechnical team and a NATA soil and rock laboratory.
Stantec has a long history of providing geotechnical drilling services centred in Mackay and Bowen basin as well as throughout Queensland and the Northern Territory more broadly. Stantec is looking at revitalising and growing our drilling capability and have recently taken delivery of a 2022 model Comacchio MC-T 7 geotechnical drilling rig.
Key Responsibilities
Within this role you will be assisting our geotechnical driller in the operation of our drilling rig and driving our drilling support vehicle.
Local drilling campaigns are generally served Monday-Friday, with mining and regional work being served on a 10:4 roster. All work meals and accommodation for out-of-town work is fully provided. All required travel time from our Mackay office is paid as time worked, with overtime and weekend penalty rates for shift and weekend work.
Secondary Responsibilities
Secondary responsibilities include:
Assisting in the maintenance of the drilling rig (lifting equipment, hydraulic inspections, servicing, etc.)
Assisting in managing the stock levels of consumables;
General cleaning of the drilling vehicles; and
Assisting in maintaining compliance across various mine sites.
In time between projects or when not actively maintaining the drilling equipment, work is available within our materials testing laboratory.
Flexible work arrangements such as modified working hours and purchased annual leave can also be made.

Qualifications
About You
You will be assisting in drilling operations including auguring, rotary wash and diamond core drilling as well as in situ testing such as Standard Penetration Testing (SPT).
Attributes essential for success in this position include:
A Queensland LR/MR licence or the ability to obtain;
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work remotely and on a rostered shift;
Ability to pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol test;
Standard 11 and Coal Board Medical or the ability to obtain;
Ability to work effectively with in a team environment with a positive and proactive attitude;
The ability to perform physically demanding works under hot and humid conditions; and
Desire to be an active participant in the safe operating of the drilling rig and associated activities.
Attributes desirable in this position include:
Familiarity with auguring techniques for drilling through soil;
Familiarity with diamond coring techniques;
Familiarity with in situ testing such as packer tests, SPT and CPT; and
Cert II in drilling techniques.
On the job training will be provided for the right applicant.
Please note that this role requires applicants to be in the field for extended periods and be physically fit so you may be asked to undertake a pre-employment medical and/or physical as well as random drug and alcohol testing.
