Overview
The Eigigu Solutions Corporation (ESC) Economic & Community Development team delivers employment, education and community engagement programs to refugees and asylum seekers (Clients) on Nauru, to equip them with the skills to be self-sufficient and integrated in Nauruan society and other potential settlement countries. The Economic & Community Development team delivers adult English language classes, vocational education, employment readiness programs, and social inclusion and cultural engagement to clients, promoting a sense of dignity, belonging and independence.
Position Purpose
The English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher is responsible for creating lesson plans and delivering module-based English language classes to adult clients using a trauma-informed model.
The EAL Teacher is also responsible for delivering English conversation classes, EAL-focused life skills classes, one-on-one tutoring, and International English Language Testing System (IELTS) preparation classes.
The EAL teacher delivers classes in both a classroom and community outreach setting, as required by student need.
Duties Include
- Assessing students to ascertain their competency level in the English language;
- Creating interactive, dynamic lesson plans to ensure maximum student engagement;
- Delivering module-based classes to adult clients with the aim of progressing them through levels and achieving competence in a reasonable timeframe;
- Constructing and delivering English conversation, EAL-focused life skills and IELTS preparation classes;
- Attending outreach sessions in the community to reach students who are unable to attend the classroom, or to promote classes being held at the Community Resource Centre;
- Actively contributing to the continual improvement processes of the business; and
- Guiding work within all relevant policies and procedures.

Education and Experience
Mandatory
- A recognised degree or equivalent.
- A recognised Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) qualification or a recognised degree in education with TESOL method.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience teaching EAL.
Desirable
- The ability to speak Farsi, Arabic, Somali, Tamil or Urdu.
- International experience creating and delivering English classes for adults.
