Appointment Pool

Tom Price Primary School (PS) are seeking to establish a pool of Special NeedsEducation Assistants for appointments to permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2024 school year. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within the 2024 school year.

About the position

Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to collaborate well with the teacher to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students.  An understanding and regular use of safe work practices will be highly regarded.  You should be organised and able to use your initiative to assist the teacher with the general care and wellbeing of students and maintenance of the learning environment.

You will work either under general supervision or autonomously and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement.  We are seeking applicants who are committed to enhancing students' learning opportunities using their understanding of differentiation, intervention, and engagement strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum.

Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all students.  You will also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress.  The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students, as well as the ability and willingness to engage with children with challenging behaviours, is highly desirable.

Our school

At Tom Price PS, we are dedicated to ensuring that our students are placed first in all our decision making and that improved student learning is our highest priority. Our purpose is to ensure every student is a successful student and that every teacher is a highly effective teacher

We place high expectations on ourselves and strive to exceed them. We believe that in order for every student to achieve their potential we must provide the best conditions possible for our teachers, Education Assistants and other support staff to work.

Our team understand that the prerequisites for successful students are the quality of teaching (what is taught and how it is taught) and the provision of a safe, caring and inclusive learning environment. We enable success by ensuring the efficient allocation and use of resources, providing high quality and distributed leadership and maintaining positive and effective relationships.

The location and community

Tom Price sits within the Shire of Ashburton and is some 747 metres above sea level, making it the highest town in WA and a haven for the weary traveller. It’s a modern fully-serviced town designed to blend with the natural environment – an ideal base if you’re wanting to explore the natural wonders of the Karijini and Millstream Chichester National Parks.

Facilities include: a major supermarket, doctor, hospital, fuel outlets, library, primary schools, a secondary school, TAFE and several motels and restaurants. There are several parks and gardens within the town, which are well maintained and provide an abundance of shade, suitable for a family BBQ, ball games or just a snooze under a tree.

The love of sport and the outdoor life in Tom Price is evident, with the majority of sports catered for. The town is home to three large ovals, tennis, netball, basketball, and squash courts as well as a lawn bowls green, an indoor cricket centre, an eighteen-hole golf course and an Olympic size swimming pool.
