Meadow Springs Education Support Centre (ESC) is seeking a passionate, committed, and enthusiastic Education Assistant - Special Needs - Lead (EASN-Lead) to join their school leadership team.

The EASN-Lead will ideally possess extensive experience working with students with Special Needs.

It would also be preferable to have skills and knowledge in the following areas -

  • Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) - speech devices; Pragmatic Organisation Dynamic Display (PODD): Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS)
  • Specialised instruction including TEACCH; Discrete Trial Training, Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA); Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)
  • Personal care in schools and first aid procedures in a school and disability context and the ability to create plans and monitoring tools
  • Maintain accurate student records in areas such as first aid and behaviour management
  • Behaviour Management support working alongside the Deputy Principals including the ability to manage complex behaviours as part of a team
  • Transition Programs within the school working alongside the Principal and Deputy Principal which may involve liaising with other schools and key staff within those schools.

Ideally, the successful applicant will bring a solutions-focused and student-centred approach to all tasks, enabling the delivery of high-quality learning programs and improved educational outcomes for all students. The role will include being a mentor, and model good practices for other Education Assistants within the school. The EASN-Lead ideally will be well organised, with the ability to work well with a range of people and possesses well developed written and oral communication skills. It is desirable that the applicant understands confidentiality and is able to support staff to follow the school's conflict resolution model. A key part of the role will be staff induction for Education Assistants. This role requires that the SNEA - Lead has a good understanding of all school policies, curriculum programs and workplace expectations. Maintaining a high level of professional knowledge will require additional training and the ability to apply this knowledge within the school context. As a leader in the school having a calm and positive approach to all aspects of the role is important.

Meadow Springs ESC is a special school co located on site with Meadow Springs Primary School. We are an inclusive school that provides positive learning for everyone as we - Discover Our Potential Together. We currently have 84 students from Kindy to Year 6 across 10 classrooms. Our students primarily have a diagnosis of Autism and a significantly high percentage of students have complex communication needs.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • considerable knowledge and understanding of the delivery of education programs and/or behaviour management plans; and ability to identify problems and assist teachers and other Education Assistants in the development of strategies and solutions.
  • well developed oral communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, mentor, coach, induct and train other Education Assistants and professional teams, including providing advice and evaluating education programs.
  • well developed written communication skills, including report writing, and the ability to coordinate, collect and present student data at a whole school community level in a meaningful way.
  • well developed organisational skills, including the ability to coordinate staff rosters and relief to assist in the delivery of effective education programs.
