This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024.
Hammond Park Secondary College (SC) is seeking to appoint an Education Assistant - Special Needs to join their friendly team.
The successful applicant will support students with Special Needs while working collaboratively with class teachers and other support staff. You will ideally be collaborative, team focused and able to support students across a range of Special Needs. You should be innovative and have strong behaviour management skills, particularly being able to deal with challenging/complex behaviour.
As a Special NeedsEducation Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery of planned education programs that will help students achieve success whilst supporting the general health and wellbeing of students.
Hammond Park SC opened in 2020 with 175 foundation Year 7 students and will add an additional year group each year until we are a 7 to 12 campus in 2025. We are seeking an Education Assistant who aligns to our college vision and values and is prepared to grow and learn. Experience with working with students with Autism is highly desirable.
The college provides local students with a dynamic and innovative learning environment centred around the social and emotional wellbeing of each child. Student voice and agency is a key aspect of the college in creating high expectations and an environment where all can flourish. We also provide challenging, engaging and intentional instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, and foster a culture of lifelong learning.
This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position.
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with Special Needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
