THE ROLES - Level 3 (Multiple positions available) & Level 4 (One position available)
The Educational Assistant (EA) is a critical role within the educational institution that demands a high level of commitment, experience, and interpersonal skills. The EA's primary responsibility is to provide support to classroom teachers and other staff members in addressing the diverse learning needs of students. The EA serves as a resource person for teachers in designing and implementing instructional strategies that maximise student achievement and success.
The EA’s role is instrumental in promoting inclusion and supporting the learning of all students, including those with special needs, and students with other challenges that may impact their learning. The EA works closely with classroom teachers to monitor student progress, identify learning gaps, and facilitate targeted interventions that enhance students' learning and progress.
To be successful in this role, the EA's should possess strong advocacy of inclusive practices, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an understanding of diverse learning needs, and a profound knowledge of evidence-based practices and trends in Learning Support services. The EA must be flexible, adaptive to change, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
Education Assistant Level 4 (EA4)
In addition to providing the above support to teachers and other staff members, the EA4 collaborates with the Learning Support Coordinator and Head of Senior School to ensure a coordinated and cohesive approach to Learning Support services. This involves developing and implementing programs, and initiatives that align with the broader educational goals of the institution.
To be successful in this role, the EA4 should possess strong leadership skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an in-depth understanding of diverse learning needs, and a profound knowledge of evidence-based practices and trends in Learning Support services. The EA4 must be flexible, adaptive to change, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
EXPERIENCE
Education Assistant - Level 3
- Experience in supporting students in a classroom environment, with Special Educational Needs and Additional Learning Needs.
- A minimum of 1-year experience
Education Assistant - Level 4
- Possesses a knowledge of workplace practices and procedures, including a detailed knowledge of procedures relevant to the responsibilities listed in the position description
- Resolves complex operational problems and coordinates work within a year level stage of the College
- Displays a high level of initiative and judgement
- If required to supervise other employees, will be responsible for maintaining the quality of work of those supervised
- May supervise students without a teacher present
- Is responsible for planning future department, year level, stage or College organisational needs within their areas of responsibility
- A minimum of 5-year experience as an Educational Assistant or similar role
SKILLS
- Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal, strong interpersonal skills and experience in maintaining cooperative partnerships within the organisation
- Advanced computer literacy and experience with Microsoft Office products
- Well-organised and committed
- Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build rapport and interact effectively at all levels of an organisation.
- Demonstrates a respect for, and acceptance of, difference in students, parents and staff.
- Ability to provide in class support to students who have a specific learning disability such as dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia
- Experience with implementation of intervention strategies to support learning programs within each Senior School Department
- Knowledge in collecting data and evidence to support NCCD requirements and an understanding of relevant legislation (DDA, DSE)
- Operates effectively in a collaborative team environment; establishes a rapport and builds strong relationships.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
