The Role
An EL 1 Enterprise Architect works with some independence and is accountable to plan, lead and manage enterprise architecture activities across Defence. They will work within a framework of legislation, established principles, work practices and procedures in accordance with Defence’s mission and business objectives. They will have some experience and knowledge of enterprise architecture processes and are responsible for the development, implementation, compliance and review of products and policies within that discipline. They will build holistic views of Defence's strategy, processes, information, and assets and ensure that Defence business and ICT are aligned. They will strategically assess Defence's current capabilities, translate business strategy and objectives into an operating model and work towards identifying required changes in capabilities and emerging technologies relevant to Defence's business outcomes.
About our Team
The DIG Enterprise Architecture and Interoperability Directorate is the coordination point for Enterprise Architecture, Testing, Interoperability and Experimentation responsible for strategic direction and assurance of DIG capability in these areas in support of outcomes for the Defence Intelligence enterprise. Each of these functions are summarised below:
Enterprise Architecture (EA) - Architectural principles provide guidance on the direction of the DIG capability architecture, allowing standard development to proceed, and highlighting items with a greater level of risk. These architectural principles apply to all ICT designs and architectural artefacts that are developed for the DIG. The intent of the Architecture Principles is to provide a reference point for determining robust, reliable, sustainable decisions for its technology, information and business architectures.
Activities within this function include:
Set strategic direction for DIG ICT systems;
Provide guidance in development and assurance of DIG Architectural Principles in support of capability delivery outcomes; and
Act as DIG Architectural Design Authority.

They will set work tasks aligned with the strategic objectives and communicate expected outcomes.
An EL1 Enterprise Architect will have specific knowledge relating to the methodology, systems and procedures within the enterprise architecture field and have the ability to translate strategy into operational goals and create a shared sense of purpose within the DIG and Defence. They will have the ability to recognise shared agendas and work toward mutually beneficial outcomes.
