The Role
DST Group has a Senior Electronics Technician position available within Research Engineering (RE), an advanced engineering branch of Research Technology & Operations (RTO) Division that is responsible for the development of engineering solutions in support of Defence Research.
Reporting to the Discipline Leader Hypersonics Engineering and operating from DST Group’s Eagle Farm site, the Senior Electronics Technician is accountable under limited direction to undertake moderate to highly complex electronic manufacturing tasks within a research and development setting, and perform a Work Area Lead function for a small yet modern and well-equipped Electronics Workshop. Tasks include practical electronics assembly work and as well administrative duties in relation the workshop management and compliance – a strong technical knowledge of electronics engineering and practical electronic hand skills is required, coupled with sound organisational and management skills.
The role will involve operation of a variety of specialist low-volume electronics assembly equipment, along with day-to-day management of the workshop, including planning work package execution, assuring compliance, and maintaining capability. Recognition of the impact of a chosen technique or approach to the achievement of task outcomes, along with an ability to investigate and recommend alternative courses of action is also a characteristic of the role.
Position Duties:
1. Under limited guidance:
a. Perform moderate to highly complex component-level assembly, repair, modification and upgrade tasks on electronic systems using a range of specialist tools and equipment.
b. Interpret and prepare electronic assembly and maintenance documents using relevant software packages when required.
c. Perform duties as the Electronics Workshop Lead in relation to timely work package execution, assuring quality and WHS compliance, maintaining/developing capability, and operator training.
d. Evaluate and recommend appropriate electronics manufacturing/fabrication techniques and methods to achieve outcomes.
e. Exercise sound judgement and a high level of stakeholder engagement in relation to the operation of the Electronics Workshop, offering high-level technical and administrative advice. 2. Build and sustain effective relationships with stakeholders and actively participate in team work and group activities.
3. Implement scientific and engineering methodologies to solve problems of considerable complexity.
4. Ensure and maintain technical, scientific, engineering, and quality standards through the application of established principles.
5. Deliver high quality scientific and engineering reports including briefs and presentations.
