Job description

Acura Talent is assisting a Federal Government agency in sourcing an EL1 Deputy CFO for a 3-month contract with 3X3 months extension. You will be responsible for the agency’s budget arrangements and business services, and the delivery of associated activities and outcomes.

You will have an understanding of government financial management and operations, a demonstrated record of initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures, and the capability to provide sound technical and professional advice which can be understood by a non-technical audience and supports effective decision making.

KEY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Monitor and report on financial results against departmental and administered budgets.
  • Lead the preparation and dissemination of internal budgets, forecasting and costing activities.
  • Prepare portfolio budget submissions (including CBMS), portfolio budget statements, estimate updates and other governments requests.
  • Proactively engage and collaborate with senior management on financial and budget management, along with cultivating productive working relationship with external stakeholders.
  • Under limited direction, prepare written papers for agency’s Executive, Audit and Risk Committee, Senate estimates and other external parties.
  • Manage facilities services arrangements, including property management services and the coordination of associated activities.
  • Assist the CFO to implement system change and other business improvement activities, including finance and accounting policies.
  • Manage the performance and development of a small team by providing strategic direction, leadership, guidance, and coaching.
KEY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Understanding of government financial management and operations.
  • Demonstrated record of initiative and judgement in the interpretation of policy and the application of practices and procedures.
  • Capability to provide sound technical and professional advice which can be understood by a non-technical audience and supports effective decision making.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation capabilities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Accounting qualifications will be highly regarded.
