The Executive Officer will support the effective operation of the Veteran, Family and Stakeholder Experience Group and is required to work closely with Secretary, Deputy Secretary, members of the Executive and Senior Leadership Group and departmental staff to generate, coordinate and prioritise competing tasks with limited timeframes. The Executive Officer requires an ability to think strategically, develop productive working relationships across the Divisions, the Department and with external stakeholders, have a client focussed approach, high attention to detail and an ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
No formal qualifications are required however experience in Executive Officer roles, or ministerial offices would be highly beneficial.
The key duties of the position include:
  • action and/or delegate the VFSE Group or Commemorations Division correspondence to ensure timely and effective business operations
  • provide strategic advice to the Deputy Secretary VFSE, Assistant Secretary Commemorations and Director of Office of War Graves and other senior leaders on matters relating to the broader group and clients
  • coordinate and/or prepare complex and/or sensitive correspondence, corporate documentation, submissions, speeches, talking points, briefing papers, meeting packs and other strategic communication and correspondence
  • work closely and collaboratively with the Group Executive Officers and Executive Assistant to the Deputy Secretary to ensure priority matters are actioned appropriately
  • establish and maintain a productive working relationships with and providing a high level of service to:
o members of the Senior Executive and their Executive Support teams
o the Office of the Minister for Veterans’ Affairs
o staff at all levels across the department
o senior officers in external agencies and organisations
  • liaise with senior internal and external stakeholders in relation to complex or sensitive matters
  • maintain an in-depth knowledge of the work programmes across the group
  • undertake work activities with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic or operational outcomes for the group
  • interpret policy and provide advice to the VFSE Group or Commemorations Division regarding the application of practices and procedures
  • undertake complex research and analysis related to Division’s areas of responsibility
  • represent the department at inter-departmental meetings and at conferences and seminars
  • act as the principal point of contact on issues as required
  • adhere to the APS Values and Code of Conduct
  • demonstrate capability in line with the department’s Capability Development Framework and Work Level Standards at the EL1 level or EL2 level applicable to which roles you are choosing to apply for
  • perform other tasks as required.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
Currently hold a valid Australian Government Security Vetting Agency - Baseline Security Clearance (or the ability to obtain a Baseline clearance).

This recruitment process is being used to fill an ongoing positions.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 12 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
