Job description

  • Temporary part-time for up to 6 months working 2 days per week, with the possibility of ongoing employment
  • Salary Range ($31,214 – $35,502 pa pro-rata), including an all incidence allowance of $2,937 per annum, employers contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading 

About us

The Monaro Electorate Office is located in Queanbeyan and is the point of contact for constituents and local community groups with the Member for Monaro regarding state government services and responsibilities.

About the position

The Electorate Officer is the initial point of contact for all constituent enquiries. Administrative functions are central to this role to support the Member, and to ensure the efficient operation of the Electorate Office. The role may require some after-hours work. Local knowledge is desirable but not essential.

Selection Criteria

  1. Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to hear from and liaise with community groups, government and non-government organisations, and the media.
  2. Excellent writing skills including the ability to prepare correspondence, briefing notes, submissions, speeches, newsletters and media releases.
  3. Demonstrated superior organisational skills to work effectively under pressure and manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to exercise sound judgement and ability to perform at a high standard under limited supervision and within a team environment.
  5. An interest in, and understanding of, the Australian political context and Australian parliamentary procedures and processes.
  6. Good word processing/keyboard and computer skills in an office environment.
  7. Demonstrated research and analytical skills including the ability to analyse policy and legislation.
