Due to high growth HES are searching for Electrical Engineering Associates - Protection Relay Technicians. The positions would see the successful candidates join the HES ‘Resources’ team, that services the resource sector within the Pilbara and surrounding areas, as well many other mining, oil and gas and infrastructure customers across the whole of WA.
Purpose of the Position
We are seeking motivated and talented Protection Relay Technicians to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects and contribute to the development of safe and efficient power systems.
The Protection Relay Technicians will be involved in testing, commissioning, and maintenance of High Voltage assets. They will also be involved in the production of design reports, testing, programming, and electrical design.
Duties and responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide a High Voltage testing, commissioning and maintenance service
- Protection Relay's testing (Siemens, ABB, Alstom, GE & SEL)
- Competent in using the following equipment & associated software: OMICRON CMC & CPC100, MEGGER, DOBLE
- Competent in testing and commissioning of IEC61850 functionality of Protection relay.
- Protection design and grading for new and upgrading facilities
You will need to be very flexible with the expectation that you may be asked at short notice to mobilise or de-mobilise from one job to another anywhere across the region.
You may also be asked to work in remote locations on fixed FIFO rotations
Skills and experience
To be considered for this role you will need:
- Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant engineering discipline
- At least 2 - 5 years of relevant work experience
- Good knowledge of Protection Relays and high voltage testing principles
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with people at all levels.
- Commitment to safety and a proactive approach to identifying potential hazards.
- Strong analytical and technical skills.
- Strong IT skills, particularly with MS Excel Enthusiasm and curiosity to learn and ask questions. Be available to work away on remote mine sites.
- Valid Driver's Licence
- Be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or have the right to work and remain in Australia.

Salary range: $120,000 - $150,000
