Job description

Austest Laboratories is the leading Australian based testing facility, providing comprehensive testing and certification services for defence, aerospace, rail, automotive, medical and other industries. Due to continued growth in our business, we are seeking a dynamic and motivated Electrical or Electronics engineer to join our Sydney team providing testing and certification services for a wide range of electrical products to relevant AS/NZS and IEC product safety standards.

The position involves dealing with all aspects of testing projects, from handling the initial enquiry through to setup of test equipment, execution of tests, analysis of results and preparation of formal reports. The successful candidate will be expected to work in close coordination with other team members and direct contact with customers, government representatives and regulatory bodies, so excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for the role. 

The main responsibilities include:

  • Setup and execution of various tests
  • Processing of test results and preparation of formal test reports
  • Setting up and verifying testing equipment
  • Preparation of testing systems

The desirable attributes for a successful candidate:

  • Methodical and structured approach to work with the ability to maintain clear and concise written records (notes, logs, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Sound knowledge of electrical principals
  • Engineering degree, a diploma/TAFE certificate or an equivalent qualification in an electrical field
  • Testing activities include significant hands-on work so a successful candidate must be competent in the use of basic tools such as scopes, multi meters and soldering irons
  • Experience in preparation of formal technical documentation
  • Ability to read electrical circuit diagrams and perform basic electrical troubleshooting

The work environment is very dynamic with typical project lengths of only 2-4 weeks. Hence the ability to operate efficiently and independently is of paramount importance. 

Previous experience in laboratory testing and certification is preferred.
