- Additional Requirements; For this role we are looking to hear from people of all work experience levels however you must have demonstrated experience in circuit board design (personal or professional).
About the Role
In this role you will be part of the Robotic Systems prototype development team, where Electronics is a key component alongside Software and Industrial Design.
You'll act as a bridge between software and hardware, utilising all options in your wheelhouse to meet the customers requirements; off-the-shelf components, custom PCBs, microcontrollers, single board computers, nothing is off the table if it achieves a robust, reliable solution.
You will work with the customer to take their ideas from design, to manually assembled prototypes and through to external repeat production.
As part of our approach to continuous improvement all team members are involved in setting quarterly goals to improve our system and processes. By making small and simple improvements we can improve our work lives, quality of work and ultimately work towards solving better problems.
Note: Due to the nature of our development being hardware based, regularly working from home is not possible, however we are very flexible around occasional changes to work hours/location.
Task Examples:
- Collaborate with customers to develop concepts using our design processes.
- Work with our Software team to develop effective messaging and communication structures
- Perform in depth research into electronics, as well as the fundamental science and physical context required to make the best design decisions
- Research interpret and apply specific electronics standards or best practices
- Utilise parametric search systems and interpret data sheet information to evaluate alternatives and determine the optimal components and hardware for the design solution.
- Create component footprints and design PCB schematics/layouts.
- Verify designs and prototype performance through use of simulation software and electronic test equipment
- Design test systems for ensuring quality control across production boards
- Document cabling designs and information in cable harness software
- Produce manufacturing files and documentation and organise contract manufacturing.
- Shoot training videos to explain to your Production Team mates how to assemble, configure, program and test your designs.
About you
- You have a University qualification in Electrical/Electronics Design/Engineering or equivalent
- You are diligent and are effectively able to manage your own time and prioritise tasks.
- You always try to solve things in a practical and simple manner.
- You are a stickler for the little things and have a good eye for detail.
- You don't shy away from problems you don't know how to solve. Instead researching, testing and trying until you find a solution.
- You don’t take shortcuts or cut corners, accepting nothing but your best work.
- You get a kick out of working with your hands to build and create things.
- You have a passion for all things in the technology space.
- You are not afraid to ask for help or clarification if you need it.
- You approach problems as a stepping stone towards the solution.
- You currently reside within commuting distance (<1hr) of Robotic Systems at Mayfield West
- You currently hold an Australian Driver Licence and have own transport
Bonus Points:
- You have demonstrable professional experience in circuit board and electronics design.
- You can demonstrate a passion for electronics through your hobbies.
- You can demonstrate experience in the KiCAD, Eagle or other PCB design software.
- In addition to your University qualification you also hold practical qualifications or can show experience in Electronics maintenance and repair (eg TAFE Certification).
