Job description

This position will involve a combination of Electronics Engineering (primary) and system commissioning (secondary).

The Electronics engineering aspect of the role will including the conceptual design, validation and development of electronic hardware such as sensors, actuators and control hubs as well as wired and wireless data transmission hubs using technologies such as LoRaWAN and/or BLE.  The role will also be responsible for the development of necessary production quality management and associated production test and installation test tools and procedures as well as management of product certification testing and strategies. 

The Systems Technician aspect of the role will include the commissioning of water management systems including testing of RS485 backbones, hubs and install and commissioning of servers and system training for clients.

Accountability

This position is accountable to the Research and Development Manager but will provide system technician and commissioning support to Technical Services manager for project work when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Proficiency with PCB design using Altium Designer.
  • Proficiency programming using C, C++, python, SQL and using GitHub at a minimum.
  • Proficiency with STM32 microcontrollers.
  • Proficiency with RS485, RS232, LoRaWAN. Experience with Ethernet and Bluetooth is preferred.
  • Proficiency configuring, installing, and commissioning windows servers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office including an advanced understanding of Excel functions.
  • Excellent project management skills, experience with Monday.com is preferred.
  • A strong technical aptitude and an understanding of technical solutions.
  • Excellent oral and written communication.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
  • A high level of motivation and a strong drive to succeed.
  • Demonstrated ability to liaise with customers and sales staff to solve issues.
  • Experience working on construction sites and in the plumbing industry is preferred.
  • Ability to pass a police check for site access.

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor of engineering – electrical
  • Full valid driver’s license
  • White Card (preferred, but training can be organised)
  • Structured cabling experience (cabling ticket preferred)

Duties

Generate ideas, create MVPs, design products, bring to commercialisation and maintain:

  • Generate ideas to expand markets, improve existing designs or improve processes.
  • Create MVP to test the idea and gather feedback.
  • Design products to meet the design specification.
  • Commercialise products by utilising our electronics manufacturing services partners and by developing production and commissioning test tools.
  • Maintain existing products through continuous improvement.

Manage the system commissioning of new Smart Flow systems:

  • Liaise with project site contacts, contractors, and team members on an ongoing regarding the progress of projects.
  • Update project status in Monday.com project management tool.
  • Configure windows servers and other networking products.
  • Install the server and other network devices and commission the server with site specific configuration and debug and fix any issues.
  • Complete testing and documentation of the Smart Flow system.
  • Train the customer staff in use of the Smart Flow system.

Maintain existing Smart Flow systems:

  • Provide initial troubleshooting advice to the customer for existing systems.
  • Travel to projects to troubleshoot and rectify problems on site including:
    • Networking issues
    • RS485 backbone issues
    • Database issues
    • Plumbing issues

Manage project documentation:

  • Developing internal processes for smooth delivery of projects.
  • Manage technical documentation delivery to stakeholders.
  • Keep records of changes to projects and tools.
  • Provide support for final as-built plans and design documentation at project end.

  • A component of the role is work on construction sites with the associated physical demands.
