Job description:
We are currently looking for an Electronics Technician (6 months fixed term initially) to join our Engineering Services team within the Telstra Creator Space located in the University of Melbourne's innovation precinct, Melbourne Connect.
Reporting to the Build Supervisor, you will help shape and contribute to the safe and efficient operation of the electronics area in the Creator Space. You will also provide electronic technology advice and support to students and the Creator Space Service Delivery team and ensure continued quality accreditation, regulatory and legislative compliance is met.
As a suitably qualified professional, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering a student-centred, safe and efficient Creator Space service
- Demonstrating behaviours and ethos to ensure a positive and inclusive maker culture
- Teaching users to safely operate electronics tools and equipment
- Risk and Safety assessments and implementation
- Effective Electronics Maker Service
- Project and Workshop development and continuous improvement
- Coordinating maintenance and calibration of electronics equipment
- Management of electronics consumables and materials
To be successful in the role of Electronics Technician you will need to bring with you:
- Relevant trade qualification and/or applied experience in maker environments
- Component-level electronics prototyping and assembly experience
- Surface-Mount Soldering, Reflow Soldering and PCB repair/re-work
- Fabrication/Machining/ Construction of electronics equipment enclosures
- Experience of PCB (Printed Circuit Board) build, test and commissioning to industry standards
- An affinity with and knowledge of a range of design and manufacturing techniques
- Experience using common microcontroller platforms such as Arduinos and single board computer platforms such as Raspberry PI
- Experience working in teams within technical and quality management frameworks
- An ability to interact within a diverse group of technical, engineering, scientific and management team members and stakeholders
- A high level of patience and interpersonal skills to work with people/students at all stages of the experience level
- A passion for STEM with a desire to make a positive impact on the next generation of STEM people
- Self-motivation and the curiosity required to seek out and co-create ideas and prototypes
Whilst not essential, experience with construction/configuration of working prototypes including programming and experience with diagnosis and repair of electronic equipment would be advantageous.
