To support our continued growth, we seek an experienced electronics & firmware design engineer with broad technical knowledge who can drive product development. The individual will contribute to the specification & architecture phase and be responsible for projects through to customer-facing issues. The preferred candidate is a computer science, computer engineer or electrical engineer with experience developing embedded software applications. Familiarity with optical fiber and T&M industry is beneficial. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, results oriented, and motivated to develop and deliver real solutions.
You must be capable of taking projects through conception, design, development, deployment and optimization in the following activities:
Essential Job Functions:
- Analog & digital circuit development from architecture to debug & maintenance.
- Firmware/software development from architecture to debug & maintenance.
- Develop software solutions and algorithms by studying needs; systems flow, equipment usage, and work processes; following the software development lifecycle.
- Collaborate with other disciplines to launch high quality, high reliability solutions with an emphasis on design for manufacturability & test.
- Develop design documentation including requirements, performance, safety, and test specifications.
- Drive product innovation through research and evaluation of new technologies while coordinating with product management.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication including feedback, problem identification and problem resolution in a team environment.
The successful candidate will be Degree qualified in electronic engineering or related discipline, and should possess at least the following:
Required:
- Experience with variety of MCU platforms (such as Cortex M, PIC24, MSP430 etc.) and supporting digital circuit design firmware and real-time embedded software applications.
- Proficiency in bare board, RTOS and embedded Linux-based software development in C and C++
- Analog design including instrumentation and low voltage power supplies.
- PCB schematic & layout using Altium or similar.
- Strong troubleshooting skills.
- Experience and methodology in hardware-firmware integration during the product development cycle.
- Experience with digital communication hardware and protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Wi-Fi, TCP/IP, etc.)
- Develop software solutions from a functional specification.
- Develop and execute software validation and verification plans.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Australian permanent residency or be an Australian citizen.
The successful candidate would benefit from any knowledge or exposure to the following:
- Knowledge of related manufacturing and assembly processes to achieve DFM and DFT objectives.
- Experienced in FPGA design and development.
- Experience with backend and device driver development for Windows / Linux PC platforms.
- Experience with Linux Kernel modification and configuration.
- Knowledge of communication networks and associated technologies
- Laboratory or manufacturing automation
- Writing Windows device drivers .
- Experience with interfacing to serial ports,
- General MS Windows and Excel technical knowledge.
- Writing automation test scripts and user test interfaces.
- Fibre optic, optical or metrology experience.
