Emergency Department (ED), Royal North Shore Hospital
The Emergency Department Research Nurse works as part of the multifaceted ED Research Team comprised of the Director of Emergency Research, the ED Research Project Officer, the ED Research Registrar and a team of enthusiastic volunteer research assistants who include staff with advanced skills in statistics and ethics applications.
You will be interacting with ED patients, ED clinical staff plus other hospital researchers and members of the Kolling Institute of Medical Research Staff.
What you'll be doing
The ED Research Nurse will be involved in all facets of research in the ED. The core role will be facilitating the enrolment of patients into our clinical trials. This involves approaching patients who are potential trial candidates, providing and explaining trial information, securing informed consent, plus providing and monitoring any trial intervention given in the ED. You will be responsible for security of all data collected, entry of data and any follow up required once the patient has left the ED.
As part of a team that values a skilled workforce, your role will also involve taking part in the ED Research Educational Program via accessing ECI and NSLHD research educational resources.
There will be opportunities to be involved in all aspects of research development/implementation including hypothesis generation, methodology development, ethics/governance applications, trial registration plus writing and submission of research manuscripts for publication.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

- Appropriate tertiary qualifications and/or experience in Nursing, and registration with AHPRA.
- Experience or interest in research, managing clinical trials and data management.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and negotiation skills with experience in using multiple forms of communication tools, including proficiency with use of computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word, and Access.
- Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills and flexibility to work across the study activities of the clinical trial and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated organisational and self-motivational skills, ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Certified venepuncture skills or willingness to attain.
