EMERGENCY MEDICINE CMO | NEW SOUTH WALES

Challis Recruitment is currently recruiting Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officers to join our client in rural New South Wales.

THE HOSPITAL

The Hospital is a 99-bed rural referral hospital who service a community of 55,000. It is a modern and well-equipped spacious hospital providing a comprehensive range of services including acute medical and surgical services, obstetrics, paediatrics, and a range of allied health services. Adult medical services include respiratory, cardiac, chemotherapy, renal and palliative care. Surgical services include general, orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, and ophthalmology.

THE POSITION

The Emergency Medicine Career Medical Officer will be directly responsible to the Head of Departments’ FACEM lead team. They will provide the day-to-day clinical management of patients under the care and direction of the FACEM lead team to ensure a high quality of patient care. With your extensive training and experience in critical care, supervision, and mentoring / teaching you will work towards a leadership role in the Emergency Department including carrying out in charge duties during night shifts.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES, ACTIVITIES AND DUTIES
· Provide clinical care under the direction of the FACEM lead team on call to support the effective management of patients including providing a high level of effective management of hospital patients.
· Contribute to processes to improve the continuity of clinical care, co-ordination, patient handover, and discharge planning for during and after hospitalisation. Effective clinical management, transition to community care and discharge planning by: Encourage effective handover procedures for hospital patients by establishing processes between shifts and between teams & monitoring use and function of handover systems.
· Demonstrate leadership in the effective co-ordination of care of hospital patients, by facilitating communication and coordination between specialty, administrative and community services groups. Support team members by contributing to team building, mentoring, and training. Support team members by providing clinical advice and encouraging co-ordination of care of hospital patients through effective and timely communication.

· Contribute to teaching, mentoring and clinical supervision of medical and other staff by: Contributing to the planning, teaching and supervision programs for clinical staff including junior medical staff. Supervising junior medical staff Teaching hospital skills and providing 'on the job' training. Contributing to the delivery of education and training programs and Master’s Programs through provision of teaching and assessment Supporting junior staff in dealing with difficult patients and challenging situations

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

· Eligible for registration with AHPRA

· Training and experience to work towards a leadership role in the Emergency Department, which includes overseeing night shifts, whilst working with direct support from Consultant FACEMS staff on other shifts.

· Critical care experience, supervision experience, mentoring and teaching experience.

· Be able to work independently.

· Ability to work in a high-pressure, high-volume work environment.

· A commitment to professional client service

· Emergency senior level decision-making experience

· Continued Professional Development evidence of participation.

· Effective communication skills including capacity to use electronic records efficiently.
