Position Title: Registered Nurse - Endocscopy PACU

 Position Number: SWDS 24003

Essential Requirements: Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate endoscopy qualifications or experience.

Desirable Requirements:  

   Postgraduate qualification in Nursing or related field or working towards a postgraduate qualification in a related discipline.

Primary Purpose:

As part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality endoscopy,the Registered Nurse:

  • Undertakes the delivery of quality care to clients of Springwood Day Surgery based on best practice principles and within a collaborative and multi-disciplinary framework.
  • The RN engages in reflective, analytical practice through effective assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of direct person centered care.

Duties:

I.       Ensure the delivery of a comprehensive clinical service through the provision of assessment, pre-operative and post operative care for patients and their families or carers.

  1. Function as an active member of a multi-disciplinary team, including the provision of support and consultation to other team members as required.
  2. Prepare specialised reports as required.
  3. Actively participate in quality and safety processes at the team level, including incident reporting and evaluation, approved research, internal audits, and policy and procedure review.
  4. Undertake continuing professional development, including participation in formal clinical supervision and peer review.
  5. Supervise students and less experienced day surgery staff.
  6. Be accountable for the day to day running of the day surgery including staff management, stock control, education and mentoring.
  7. Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives, safeguarding practices for vulnerable people, and related training.
  8. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Broad administrative and overall clinical direction for the Day Surgery team.
  • Individually accountable for the provision of specialised clinical services and a professional  standard of care
  • Clinical and professional accountability to the Director of Nursing/General Manager& Board of Directors
  • Professional supervision provided or approved by the Day surgery
  • Responsible for developing individual awareness of all policies, procedures and legislation affecting the duties of this position. This includes statements of consumer rights and responsibilities adopted by the service,and a general awareness of legislation, including Work Health and Safety, Equal Employment Opportunity and Anti-Discrimination

Springwood Day Surgery has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a

pre-employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

Selection Criteria:

  1. A minimum of two years’ post-graduate employment in endoscopy as a senior nurse

with a demonstrated clinical knowledge and understanding of endoscopic procedures including extensive clinicalpractice preferably with management experience in the day to day running of a unit.

  1. Demonstrated expertise in the theoretical and practical application in Endoscopy with the ability to acquire further expertise into the future.
  2. Experience and demonstrated knowledge and skills in relation to liaison and consultation with other services and agencies in the context of optimising effective and efficient service provision, advice and training and continuity of care.
  3. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the capacity to function effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  4. Demonstrated commitment to develop and participate in ongoing quality assurance activities, research and student/ junior staff education.
  5. An understanding of relevant legislation and professional practice standards including Work Health and Safety Legislation, Workplace Diversity Guidelines, the Mental Health Act and Discipline Codes of Ethics and Professional Practice.
  6. A demonstrated understanding of and personal commitment to the principles of clinical supervision.
