Applications are invited from suitably qualified medical practitioners for the above position in the Department of General Medicine at Auburn Hospital.
The Department of General Medicine at Auburn Hospital delivers inpatient and outpatient care and staff are a mix of Staff Specialists and Visiting Medical Officers, with subspecialty qualifications across several areas including Respiratory, Renal and Geriatric medicine. Patients are admitted through Auburn’s Emergency Department which has approximately 30,000 presentations per year. Currently, the department is supported by Senior Residents and Career Medical Officers and is moving toward accreditation for Advanced Trainees.
Successful applicants will have completed advanced training in Endocrinology and interests in providing acute General Medicine care for patients, with good communication skills and a team-based approach to care.
Essential requirements for appointment
1. Possess or be eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia and Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent as provided for in the Staff Specialists (State) Award/ Health Insurance Act 1997. Must have Australian Citizenship or Permanent Australian Residency. Must hold a current NSW Environment Protection Authority license (if applicable)
2. Sound clinical knowledge in Endocrinology and General and Acute Care Medicine demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position.
3. Participation in the General Medicine department’s 1:5 on-call roster
Selection Criteria
1. Qualifications and credentials required for core scope of practice in the specialty including completion of advanced training in Endocrinology through RACP or equivalent.
2. Demonstrated skills and attitudes appropriate for practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner including:
a. Proven ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team.
b. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients and colleagues.
c. Excellent organisational, supervision and collaboration skills with demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships.
d. Maintaining and developing knowledge, skills and professional performance to the level required for contemporary practice.
e. Experience and involvement in quality assurance activities and translation of research into practice to improve patient safety and quality.
3. Demonstrated ability to manage time and resources efficiently and contributing to the effectiveness and efficiency of the health care system.
4. Commitment to sound clinical governance, achieving results and managing risks.
5. Demonstrated commitment to Education, Training and Research, as applicable to the position.
