The team 

ASIC's Enforcement and Compliance Group (ECG) is responsible for the conduct of ASIC's initial inquiries, compliance and enforcement work across all sectors, excluding markets. The ECG comprises a number of teams, including Investigation and Enforcement Action Teams.

The role 

As a Lawyer or Investigator in one of our Investigation and Enforcement Action Teams, you will manage and contribute to large complex investigations of suspected misconduct.

You will:

  • develop investigation strategy, plan and conduct investigations, lead staff and manage resources
  • plan and scope investigations, identifying appropriate investigative approaches
  • employ a range of evidence gathering techniques, including conducting examinations, interviewing witnesses, taking complex statements and undertaking document reviews using electronic tools
  • analyse evidence, develop appropriate case theories and actively progress investigations
  • identify issues arising in investigations that present challenges and implement strategies to resolve
  • compile briefs for the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution (CDPP) and assist them to prepare and conduct criminal prosecutions
  • support ASIC inhouse Litigation Counsel in commencing and conducting civil litigation in the Supreme and/or Federal Courts, including briefing and instructing Counsel
  • compile administrative briefs to ASIC delegates, liaising with delegates and representing ASIC at administrative hearings
  • work in partnership with other ASIC teams to achieve effective enforcement outcomes
  • provide written and oral briefings to Senior Executives, Executive Directors and Commissioners

About you

We are looking for people with an inquisitive and analytical mind set who are comfortable working with complex information in a changing environment. You will be proactive and outcome-driven, with the ability to plan, deliver and manage complex investigations through to completion. With your expertise in managing stakeholders, advocating on complex issues and your highly developed written and verbal communication skills, you will enjoy working as part of a large, multi-skilled team.

You'll be experienced in investigations and case management and/or project management, including the conduct of civil litigation and the preparation of criminal briefs of evidence.
