Job description

Original Power is a community-focused, Aboriginal led organisation that builds the collective power of our people and backs our leadership, skills and capacity to genuinely achieve self-determination in our community and on country.

Alongside our work to protect country, there is an urgent opportunity for First Nations people to be part of the economic transition to clean and sustainable energies. Building on a decade of renewable expansion, there are significant barriers which need to be addressed to ensure our people are able to be part of the next phase of development through ownership, equity, investment and participation.

FIRST NATIONS CLEAN ENERGY NETWORK

Our vision:

The network will ensure First Nations people play a central role and harness the opportunities from Australia’s Clean Energy boom. Together we will support community-owned renewable projects to deliver lower-cost, reliable energy. We will power job opportunities and strong economies. We will also form strong industry partnerships, sharing the benefits of a renewable future.  We will back new projects so we play a role in addressing climate change.

Our mission is to:

Support communities to drive the development of Clean Energy projects that provide direct benefits to residents through reduced household energy costs and more reliable energy

Establish an innovation hub, promoting the implementation of best practice principles that should underpin all agreements for land use and benefit sharing between First Nations groups, companies and investors, while building community capacity through training and employment for First Nations people to participate in the renewable energy sector.

Advocate to lift significant federal and state regulatory barriers to renewable energy development and stoke government investment in technology, innovation and infrastructure.

The network is made up of First Nations people, communities and organisations, collaborating with industry, investors, unions, academics, legal and technical experts. It will ensure our people are part of the renewable energy revolution. Our communities deserve ready access to household solar, we want to drive community-owned Clean Energy projects and secure equitable arrangements for large scale renewable projects on our lands.

This will require investment, a supportive government policy framework, and a commitment from industry and investors to apply best practice principles.

The Network will support communities to address the barriers to clean, affordable and reliable power, securing good jobs and strong economies. We will also advise First Nations communities and business enterprises seeking to set up medium to large scale export-focussed Clean Energy projects.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-orientated Engagement and Community Lead to shape innovative responses to a range of challenging issues and engagement work of the First Nations Clean Energy Network. This role will manage and develop new partnerships with key stakeholders in community, government and other organisations for the purposes of communication, advocacy and membership/community engagement activities.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Apply your commitment to self-determination by ensuring engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities so that the Network is driven by their vision and interests.
  • Use your skills as an effective collaborator to build a sense of shared mission, matching ambitious vision with the skills to enable the development of strategy, connections, systems and resources.
  • Utilise your experience in advocacy, policy development, lobbying and project management in keeping multiple strands of work running simultaneously and navigating complex and fast-moving issues

This role will be mostly work from home or based in our office in Melbourne.
