Engineering Manager

$115,899 - $130,733 (EL 1) + Super 

Canberra - ACT, Penrith - NSW

The Role

An opportunity exists to join our dynamic and vibrant Defence team as an EL1 Engineering Manager. • Investigating, analysing and reporting on engineering concepts and risks;

• Planning and delivering critical engineering activities; 

• Providing advice to stakeholders; 

• Mentoring junior members; and 

• Enabling good inventory decisions with quality and timely engineering advice.  

Your ability to analyse and apply systems of work, Government decision-making and Defence’s mission and policy requirements will be key to allowing you to deliver outcomes. 

We are currently recruiting to the following roles located in either Penrith (NSW) or Canberra (ACT): Two x EL1 Engineering Manager.

About our Team

Land Explosive Ordnance Systems Program Office (LEOSPO) is an integral part of Explosive Materiel Branch, which is part of the new Guided Weapons Guided Weapons & Explosive Ordnance Delivery Division. Our team is made up of various disciplines (including engineering, project management, commercial, logistics, and corporate enabling services). We are primarily located in Canberra and Penrith and our focus is to acquire and sustain Explosive Ordnance for the Australian Defence Force.

EMB comprises approximately 560 dedicated employees performing requirements setting; contracting; procurement; international logistics; domestic manufacturing; item management and maintenance, and co-ordination of disposal activities. EMB partners with domestic and international industry to deliver materiel capability to Defence, managing a multi-billion dollar portfolio of complex, high-profile acquisitions and sustainment activities to support the ADF.

Our Ideal Candidate

Our ideal candidate will:

  • Be a highly proactive and organised Engineer; 
  • Have demonstrated experience in leading a team to deliver high quality engineering activities, including producing detailed engineering reports and artefacts and presenting information and advice to inform executive decision making;
  • Have a background in mechanical, chemical or electrical engineering;
  • Be a clear and concise communicator (written and verbal), strong leader and team player, able to analyse, interpret and apply engineering guidance, policy and regulations, influence stakeholders and evaluate strategies to achieve outcomes; and 
  • Take the initiative to resolve issues by identifying and developing ideas through analysis of alternative courses of action, whilst identifying their implications and associated risks.
