Job description

We are seeking an experienced Technical Officer to provide technical advice and support in the assessment and supervision of subdivisions and landscape, drainage and Public Open Space developments to join our busy team.The Shire of Capel is located in the South West, halfway between Bunbury and Busselton. At the Shire we value Honesty, Empathy, Accountability, Respect and Teamwork which underpin the way we work with our elected members, the community and each other.Job DescriptionAs our Technical Officer - Development you will apply your knowledge of landscape & engineering design and construction to the assessment and supervision of subdivision and land developments to ensure quality outcomes for the community. This includes providing preliminary advice to developers and builders regarding council requirements, assessing applications and making recommendations regarding development conditions. You will also monitor and inspect development activities throughout construction and on completion to ensure compliance with plans and conditions. Flexibility to attend meetings and conduct inspections with contractors outside of normal office hours is essential.As a team player you will use your initiative and excellent communication skills to build and maintain strong working relationships across the organisation and liaise professionally and effectively with customers, contractors and stakeholders.   • Base annual salary from $78,000 per annum dependent on skills, experience, and qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of landscape & engineering design, design review, construction techniques, materials and equipment, in the context of subdivision, land development and general infrastructure.
  • Previous experience in subdivision and land development, including application of IPWEA subdivision guidelines.
  • Ability to provide accurate advice to key stakeholders in the areas of landscape and engineering development.
  • Computer literacy to use a range of software applications including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and MS Project).
  • Current "C" class Western Australian drivers' license.
  • Experience in Local or State Government works program processing.
