Lighthouse Child and Family Services are a provider of programs and services designed to help vulnerable children and families heal, prosper, and live fulfilled lives. We are looking for Youth Workers to support effective care teams in providing high-quality trauma-informed residential services for young people.

We provide trauma-informed and therapeutic home environments for complex young people with extensive trauma histories of abuse and/or neglect. Are you a compassionate Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse looking to make a meaningful impact? We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team in a Residential Youth Worker role. Your role will be pivotal in providing essential support and care to young people in our care, fostering a nurturing environment where they can thrive.

Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities of a Residential Youth Worker typically include:

  • Provide day-to-day care and support for young people in a residential setting.
  • Offer therapeutic support and guidance to promote emotional and mental well-being.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to ensure holistic care and development of residents.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports regarding resident progress and needs.
  • Providing supervision and guidance to young residents within the facility, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Offering emotional support, guidance, and counseling to youth, helping them navigate personal challenges and develop positive coping mechanisms
  • Implementing behavior management techniques to address any disruptive or challenging behaviors among residents, promoting a positive and safe living environment.
  • Assisting youth in developing essential life skills such as cooking, cleaning, budgeting, and interpersonal communication to prepare them for independent living.
  • Supporting residents in their educational endeavors by helping with homework, providing tutoring when needed, and encouraging academic success.
  • Organising and facilitating recreational and social activities to promote engagement, teamwork, and healthy leisure pursuits among residents.
  • Responding to crises or emergencies within the facility, implementing appropriate protocols to ensure the safety and well-being of residents.
  • Collaborating with other professionals, such as social workers, therapists, and educators, to ensure a holistic approach to youth care and support.
  • Maintaining accurate records of interactions, incidents, and progress for each resident, as well as preparing reports for supervisory staff and relevant stakeholders.

Essential Criteria

  • Enrolled Nurse or Registered Nurse qualification.
  • Compassionate and empathetic nature, with a genuine interest in supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently when required.
  • Experience in youth work or residential care preferred but not essential.
  • A current blue card (or willing to obtain one).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certificate (or willing to obtain).
  • Open driver's license.
  • National Police Check obtained within the previous 12 months (or willing to obtain).
