Job description

Support the protection of our built and natural environment through education, advice and enforcement of Environmental Compliance related standards and regulations. This dynamic role offers the chance to make a real impact on our community and the natural beauty of Lake Macquarie.

LET’S EXPLORE THE JOB

The position of Environmental Compliance Officer is part of the Environmental Regulation and Compliance Department and collaborates with a variety of internal teams and external customers. You will play an important role in the development and construction process to provide technical advice and education to Council and the community on environmental standards, particularly relating to erosion and sedimentation requirements. The position involves investigating and auditing Environmental Compliance, collecting data and information to prepare site investigation reports, representing Council in various forums and delivering education and training on environmental standards and regulations.

Lake Macquarie’s beautiful surrounds are the primary location for this field-based position, with the office located at our Works Depot in Boolaroo, NSW. The position operates Monday to Friday on a 9-day fortnight arrangement.

Council is looking for a customer-focused, proactive, and enthusiastic professional with exceptional organisational skills and highly developed interpersonal and communication abilities. The ideal candidate will excel in negotiation, mediation, and problem-solving for complex issues. Your demonstrated expertise in land-use planning, building, environmental protection, environmental standards and compliance, as well as public health and safety, will ensure your success in this role and your positive contribution to our team. Additionally, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Degree qualifications in building construction, environmental science or management, engineering, geology or related field and/or relevant experience
  • Sound experience in building development and/or construction operations and legislation
  • Advanced report writing and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office applications
  • Experience in analysing and interpreting data, particularly in the field of construction or environment
  • Experience working collaboratively within a team by contributing to ongoing business improvements and teamwork
  • Current Class C Driver’s Licence

  • Competitive salary from $88,475 - $102,823 a year plus industry-leading 12 per cent superannuation
  • Plus 3.5 per cent enterprise agreement pay rise effective 8 July 2024
  • 35 hours per week on a 9-day fortnight
