Job Description:

As an Estimator at The Walsh Group Construction Pty Ltd, you’ll be a key player in our residential and commercial construction projects. Your expertise will help us provide accurate and competitive cost estimates that meet our clients' expectations and project requirements. Key Responsibilities:

  1. Document Collection and Analysis:
    • Collect and study property plans, technical drawings, and project specifications to fully understand the work required.
  2. Client and Site Interaction:
    • Meet with clients and inspect construction sites to gather essential project information and understand client requirements.
  3. Resource and Quote Management:
    • Determine appropriate human and material resources, obtain multiple quotes, and select the most suitable offers.
  4. Negotiation and Risk Assessment:
    • Negotiate with service providers for better prices and perform risk assessments to account for potential project deviations.
  5. Work Planning and Budgeting:
    • Outline work plans, gauge project timelines, monitor budgets, and ensure costs align with estimates.
  6. Proposal Drafting and Presentation:
    • Draft detailed proposals including materials, costs, and time frames, and discuss these with clients to address their concerns.
  7. Cost Estimation and Evaluation:
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates, evaluate subcontractor and supplier bids, and develop a database of cost information.
  8. Value Engineering and Industry Updates:
    • Provide value engineering solutions, assist in tender document preparation, and stay updated on industry trends and construction techniques.

Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
    • Quantity Surveyors Accreditation required.
    • Project management qualification advantageous.
  2. Experience:
    • At least 5 years as an Estimator in the construction industry.
    • Experience in forecasting costs for large-scale building projects.
  3. Technical Proficiency:
    • Knowledge of construction processes, materials, and methods.
    • Proficient in estimating software and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
  4. Quantitative and Analytical Skills:
    • Strong quantitative, analytical, and mathematical skills.
  5. Research and Proposal Writing:
    • Excellent research and proposal writing skills.
    • Familiarity with technical and non-technical documents.
  6. Negotiation and Communication:
    • Skilled in negotiating with sales personnel.
    • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
  7. Attention to Detail:
    • High accuracy and attention to detail in work.
  8. Work Ethic and Teamwork:
    • Dependable, conscientious, and articulate.
    • Able to work independently and as part of a team.
