The Organisation:

First Languages Australia (FLA) is the national peak body dedicated to strengthening all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages. We connect language communities across the country and empower them with resources, skills, and knowledge to preserve and revive their languages. Our goal is a future where all Indigenous language communities have full control over their languages and can use them according to their preference. 

We are seeking a dynamic Events and Social Media Coordinator to manage our language and cultural events, information sessions, and Social Media presence.

What you’ll be doing:

The Events and Social Media Coordinator will execute memorable events, craft compelling Social Media content, and nurture partnerships to ignite community engagement and celebrate our culture.

In this administration-based role, you will: 

  • Plan, coordinate, and execute FLA events, programs, activities, and information sessions, enhancing community engagement and celebrating cultural diversity
  • Develop robust partnerships with vendors and suppliers to ensure seamless event execution and optimal resource management
  • Manage and coordinate team travel requirements
  • Develop, implement, and manage our Social Media strategy across multiple platforms
  • Create engaging innovative content that resonates with our audience and reflects our brand identity
  • Monitor Social Media trends, analyse engagement data, and identify opportunities to strengthen our online presence
  • Research and gather content on language programs and events in collaboration with internal teams and organisational partners
  • Craft informative and engaging content for the FLA newsletter, highlighting achievements, initiatives, and upcoming events
  • Foster collaborative relationships with language centers and partners to support program growth, community outreach, and educational initiatives
  • Efficiently manage email and phone inquiries and perform necessary administrative tasks

Selection Criteria - About you:

You have an exciting history managing Events and digital platforms from start to finish, paired with a proven talent for creative thinking and embracing culture. 

Our successful candidate will have:

  • Proven experience in planning, coordinating, and executing events of various scales
  • Proficiency in managing Social Media platforms
  • Ability to create culturally appropriate and engaging content for Social Media, newsletters, and other communication channels
  • Skills in building and maintaining relationships with Aboriginal communities, organisations, and stakeholders
  • Creative and innovative thinker adept at generating new ideas
  • Highly organised and proven ability to manage competing projects and deadlines 
  • Flexible, self-directed and professional
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational and time management abilities
