We’re now looking for an Executive Producer to lead a small team, working within a busy newsroom,
to deliver our flagship daily news podcast - Full Story - to schedule.
The successful candidate will be a creative, confident and experienced audio journalist with vision, ambition and the ability to deliver.
In this role you will…
- Manage and executive produce our daily news podcast - Full Story - including commissioning daily episodes, managing staff and production schedules
- Help ensure that Full Story covers topics our audience is interested in and that showcase Guardian Australia’s award-winning journalism in a timely manner, while working with senior team members to set strategic course for audience expansion
- Find and produce the best stories with the best voices, to continually improve the show while ensuring episodes meet the highest editorial standards and legal compliance
- Work closely with producers on interviews and scripting, with sound designers to elevate stories and the hosts to continually develop the show’s sound and structure
- Ensure that senior editorial staff are updated on progress and work with department heads to guide our marketing and social media teams to make sure the shows are promoted to the widest audience possible
- Suggest ideas for investigations or mini-series, based on new ideas or new takes on existing and new Guardian Australia journalism
- Partner with hosts to continually develop the show’s sound and structure
You’ll bring
- A proven track record in news storytelling and in an editing role in daily news/ current affairs
- Impeccable editorial judgement and the ability to consistently meet tight deadlines, managing multiple projects at a time
- Experience working with journalists and/or managing producers, key contributors, on air talent and the ability to work with high profile journalists
- Experience in producing news accurately under short deadlines
- Experience in making high quality audio programming, producing interviews, and collaborating on scripting and overseeing schedules (desirable)
- Passion for narrative audio, podcast production and digital journalism
- An excitement for independent journalism and an understanding of our editorial code and value
- Commitment to showcasing diverse perspectives
- Good knowledge of media law
