Our business has four different sides to it, data-driven buyers agency and portfolio strategies/reviews, property development, tax/SMSF and business structures advisory, and cashflow real estate.

Role Description

This is a full-time or a part-time/Contractual hybrid role located in Melbourne, Victoria, with some work-from-home opportunities available. The Architect / Draftsperson / Building Designer will be responsible for day-to-day tasks such as creating detailed building plans, conducting site visits, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations, liaising with clients, and coordinating with other professionals such as architects, contractors, and structural engineers. Predominantly res code for Melbourne and Adelaide are of key focus for this role

Qualifications

  • Building Design, Architectural Design, and Architecture skills
  • Strong knowledge of Structural Engineering
  • Previous experience in Class 1B Houses will be highly regarded 
  • Understanding of all aspects of the construction process
  • Proficiency in relevant software and computer skills
  • Experience in project management and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills
  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Building Design, Architecture, or relevant field

Duties and responsibilities

The following are duties and responsibilities but are not limited to:

  • Research and Analysis: Conduct thorough research on local building codes, zoning regulations, land use ordinances, and other relevant laws governing construction projects. Analyze how these regulations impact the design and feasibility of proposed projects.
  • Code Compliance Assessment: Evaluate architectural designs and plans to ensure compliance with applicable building codes, fire safety regulations, accessibility standards, and environmental requirements. Identify any areas of non-compliance and propose necessary revisions.
  • Permit Application Preparation: Prepare comprehensive permit applications, including architectural drawings, site plans, structural calculations, and other required documentation. Ensure all necessary forms are completed accurately and submitted on time to relevant regulatory authorities.
  • Coordination with Regulatory Agencies: Liaise with local building departments, planning commissions, zoning boards, and other regulatory agencies throughout the permit application process. Address any inquiries, requests for revisions, or objections raised by regulatory officials.
  • Resolution of Compliance Issues: Collaborate with project stakeholders, such as clients, contractors, and engineers, to resolve compliance issues identified during the permitting process. Propose alternative design solutions or modifications to achieve regulatory approval while meeting project objectives.
  • Permit Tracking and Management: Maintain organized records of permit applications, approvals, and inspections. Track the status of permit applications and follow up with regulatory agencies as needed to expedite the approval process and avoid delays in project timelines.
  • Continuous Education: Stay abreast of updates to building codes, zoning ordinances, and regulatory requirements relevant to architectural practice. Attend training sessions, seminars, and workshops to enhance knowledge of compliance standards and best practices.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential legal, financial, and reputational risks associated with non-compliance or permitting delays. Take proactive measures to mitigate risks by addressing compliance issues promptly and transparently with clients and project teams.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed records of regulatory correspondence, permit approvals, and compliance documentation. Provide regular updates to clients and project stakeholders on the status of permit applications and regulatory compliance efforts.
  • Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough reviews of architectural plans and permit applications to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with regulatory requirements. Implement quality assurance protocols to minimize errors and omissions in permit documentation.
