The role
Our Environmental business is growing with a wide range of interesting projects and sustainable design. We are a large multidisciplinary company with iconic projects across renewables, environmental studies, dam & hydropower, solar power projects, energy transition, transportation and in-land rail.
We are actively seeking a dynamic and driven Aquatic Ecologist to become an integral part of our Environment team in Southeast Queensland team based in Brisbane. The position can be adapted to the successful applicant's level of experience; however, we are seeking a minimum of three year's post-graduate experience in the consulting field.
The Aquatic Ecologist will support high quality projects from our growing QLD portfolio and collaborate across some of our national projects.
Your key responsibilities may include:
- Supporting environmental studies such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA/ EIS)
- Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP), Baseline studies or specific technical studies that feed into these
- Project management
- Undertaking high quality, transparent and reproducible data analysis
- Assisting in the preparation of high-quality technical reports, tenders, proposals, or publications
- Leading/supporting multidisciplinary field work in areas such as strategic water assessments, biosecurity and receiving water risk assessments, benthic habitat mapping, waterway assessments, water and sediment sampling and general state and federal approval applications
Ideal applicants will have/be:
- Bachelor's Degree (or Post-graduate Degree) in Marine / Freshwater / Biological Sciences
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in consulting
- Ability to research and prepare documentation with conclusions to support recommendations
- Experience in primary data collection and interpretation in marine or freshwater environments (e.g. subtidal/intertidal marine ecology, experimental design, statistical analysis).
- A specialisation in marine/freshwater ecology, water quality or general experience across these disciplines
- A track record in technical report writing is essential
- Demonstrable experience in conducting statistical analysis of data
- Self-motivated with the ability to work well in a team environment
- Knowledge of environmental and approvals legislations, including but not limited to Water Act (Qld), NC Act (Qld), Planning Act (Qld) and EPBC Act
- Willingness to travel for field work in remote areas
Desirable:
- Post-graduate qualifications in Marine / Freshwater / Biological Sciences
- Experience from industries including mining, oil and gas, construction and utilities
- Experience in presenting technical and discipline-specific information to non-technical audiences
- Relevant qualifications (including AusRIVAS or Certified ENV practitioner (EIANZ))
