Job description

This role has it all - the perfect mix of Sheep, Cattle, & Cropping, utilising exceptional machinery & facilities within a successful family business.

The Role
Operating two properties within close proximity for an aggregation of 6,000 hectares, the established family business holds work ethic and manners in the highest of regards. Cereal, Oilseeds and Broad Bean are dryland cropped on 1,400 hectares, with all harvested crop stored within the 8,000 tonnes of on-farm storage to be transported throughout the year. Additionally, seven centre pivots assist in the production of fodder cropping for the livestock.
The composite flock also provide a large focus of the enterprise with 6,500 ewes producing wool and prime lambs. With safety a focus in all aspects of the business, impressive facilities have been installed, including undercover sheep yards with a capacity for 2,000 to be covered at any one time, Proway bulk handlers, Tepari weighing systems and 6-way auto drafters. Contractors are engaged for lamb marking and crutching, and all stock movement is conducted with vehicles or ATVs assisted by working dogs; it is, therefore, preferable for applicants to have their own quality team.
The recent acquisition of a second property has provided the required land to further develop and grow the beef element of the business, with plans to grow the herd to 2,000 breeders producing progeny for the trade steer markets. Impressive redevelopment has been commenced on the property, including the installation of new Proway cattle yards, with further fencing and water infrastructure to be completed in the coming seasons.
As a humble family business, they take great pride in investing in quality machinery and infrastructure to make work more comfortable and enjoyable for their team but also safer. The modern fleet of machinery is predominantly John Deere utilising John Deere Greenstar GPS, and all team members are involved in the maintenance and repair of the fleet and general farm infrastructure, making mechanical aptitude and fabrication skills advantageous.
This is a hands-on role that will see you involved in all aspects of the operation, working directly with the owners and two other team members; all personnel undertake all elements. The majority of work is with livestock and approximately 20% of your time is spent on cropping outside of peak seasons.
Your prospective employers are proud of the team they have built and are happy to train and further develop staff, however, all staff must have a passion for agriculture, communication is also very important in this operation, with initiative encouraged.
The Offer
In return for dedication and ability, you will receive a quality remuneration package in addition to being accommodated in a comfortable 3-bedroom home located on the farm. Utilities, including internet, will also be provided along with a Landcruiser and ATV for work purposes.
The main property is located just 30 kilometres southwest of Lucindale on South Australia’s beautiful Limestone Coast. A popular country town, it will provide you easy access to all amenities, including schools and partner employment opportunities.
Lucindale also proudly hosts a range of events throughout the year, including the South East Field Days and the Lucindale Campdraft.
The Ideal Candidate
Preferably you would have some previous experience in agriculture, particularly livestock, however, the employers are prepared to train the right person. It is also desirable to have the following attributes:
