Job Title: Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO)
Employment conditions: Full Time
Salary: $64,942 - $71,299 per annum
Generous salary packaging: $15,899.94p/a
Professional development incentive: Allowance of $1,500p/a
Reports to: Allied Health Manager

Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation (AHAC) is a multi-disciplinary organisation which provides primary health care services to the Aboriginal people of Tennant Creek and the surrounding Barkly region, dedicated to ‘Closing the Gap’ in Aboriginal health within remote Australia.
Anyinginyi consists of four different sections (Health Services, Business Services, Public Health Unit and Piliyintinji-Ki Stronger Families) which allow them to have a holistic approach to health ensuring that clients' physical and emotional health and wellbeing is given the utmost priority.
Anyinginyi's mission is to be a provider of high quality holistic primary health care services featuring prevention and treatment in the Barkly region in a culturally responsive way.

About the Role
The Barkly Eye Health - Aboriginal Liaison Officer is a member of the Allied Health Centre, which provides a culturally appropriate service for Anyinginyi clients in the Barkly Region. This position’s key role is to support the Barkly Regional Eye Health Coordinator and Eye Health Program.
Appropriate behavior, and acceptable appearance to maintain the integrity of the organisation is required, always working as a member of a high performing multi-disciplinary team and respecting Aboriginal values, beliefs, customs, language, and traditional practices.
More specifically, some of your duties will include (but will not be limited to):
Work as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team to assist Health Centre staff and other sections of Anyinginyi when conducting health programs and health promotion in the community
Maintain a schedule of regular ophthalmologist and optometrist visits to clinics in the Barkly
Assist the Eye Heath Coordinator and other administrative staff in updating client contact records on patient postal/home location information
Assist the driver with pick-up and notification of patient appointments for the Eye Health as needed, including acting as relief bus driver when required.
Provide an interpreting service for Aboriginal clients and their families, as needed
Support management of client travel for appointments in Alice Springs when required.
Respect for traditional Aboriginal Culture and the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal people.
Understanding and commitment to the concept, philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations.
Understanding of the practical application of principles of privacy and confidentiality in relation to client information.
Good communication and interpersonal skills – being able to respond to the needs of individual clients and staff, having a friendly, open and confident manner.
Is organised, reliable and able to do things at the time they are needed.
Good understanding and use of Word, Excel, internet and email.
Demonstrated ability to work as a team member, able to work with limited supervision, under pressure and across diverse administrative practices.
A current Drivers Licence.
Be in possession of a current First Aid Certificate or be willing to up-skill.

About you
To be successful in this role, you must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Descent as this is an Aboriginal Identified position and demonstrated experience in driving a mini-bus and four wheel-drive vehicles.
