The Royal Women’s Hospital is Australia’s oldest and most distinguished tertiary hospital dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of women and newborns, offering specialised services within maternity, neonatal and women’s health.  Our goal is to be the best place to work, learn and contribute, and to provide exceptional experiences for our patients and consumers.

About Public Fertility Services

The Women’s Public Fertility Service (PFS) is Australia’s first fully public fertility service designed to provide comprehensive person-centred fertility care to eligible patients. We offer high-quality, value-based care that is inclusive and culturally safe and improves access to fertility services for those who are currently under-serviced by the private sector. This includes single people, Aboriginal Victorians, LGBTIQ+ Victorians, people with a disability, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people from regional/rural communities and people living on low incomes.

About the role

As a Fertility Counsellor you will provide counselling to individuals and couples who are undertaking fertility treatment at the Women’s.  Counselling services will include pre-treatment counselling for diverse forms of assisted reproductive treatments, supportive and therapeutic counselling during and after treatment, assistance with fertility and reproductive treatment decision making, stress management, relationship counselling and grief and loss counselling.

A regular day will see you:

  • Provide face-to-face and telehealth counselling to patients for pre-treatment Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) counselling
  • Help patients manage the psycho-social challenges that can accompany ART
  • Provide information, support and advice regarding donor and surrogacy treatment programs
  • Provide information and support for patients undergoing medical fertility preservation
  • Deliver counselling that recognises social determinants of culture, gender and social diversity that affect people's fertility and fertility choices

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to step into an exciting, Australian-first initiative at the Women’s, where you’ll work alongside a small, cohesive team who are passionate about supporting all Victorians to have access to a world-class fertility service.

About you

You will be someone with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build strong, collaborative working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

You’ll bring with you:

  • Current full membership of the Australian and New Zealand Infertility Counsellors Association (ANZICA) - mandatory requirement
  • Registration as a Psychologist with AHPRA without restrictions, OR a member of (or eligibility for) the Australian Association of Social Workers – mandatory requirement
  • Clinical knowledge and skills around reproductive health, reproductive loss, and fertility related trauma issues
  • A working knowledge of RTAC Code of Practice and other ART and fertility counselling legislations and guidelines

Salary will be commensurate with qualification and years of relevant fertility counselling experience.

Our benefits

At the Women’s you will enjoy a culture that is collaborative, supportive and passionate about learning.  We have a strong sense of purpose, and engage in meaningful work every day.  We offer our people a range of rewarding benefits, including:

  • $11,660 in salary packaging benefits, for living expenses, meals and holiday accommodation
  • A suite of wellness initiatives designed to support you, including discounted financial, lifestyle and health options plus onsite pharmacy and EAP services
  • A comprehensive wellbeing program and regular staff events including skin and health checks, massages, therapy dog visits and all-staff lunches
  • Public transport options at our doorstep and end of journey facilities for cyclists
  • Onsite childcare centre for staff and breastfeeding rooms
  • Mentoring, learning and career development opportunities, plus paid study, exam and professional development leave
  • Five weeks annual leave and 17.5% leave loading
  • Monthly accrued days off for full time staff
  • Flexible, hybrid work from home options
  • Additional Masters and PHD allowances
