Gumala Aboriginal Corporation (GAC) is an alliance of three language groups in the Pilbara area of Western Australia, working to alleviate poverty and promote self-determination for the Banjima, Yinhawangka and Nyiyaparli people.
Make a real difference to improve the lives of others. The Field Officer engages in regular visits to remote communities to promote current initiatives and programs available from Gumala and other similar organisations, as well as identifying community needs. This role also works to provide for the integrity and significance of cultural heritage items, sites and/or places within the Gumala homeland communities and is responsible for coordinating culturally significant events.
Core duties include but are not limited to:
- Establish and strengthen connections with Gumala community members.
- Share information and improve awareness about programs available through Gumala.
- Promote education and awareness of the Gumala Member portal and access to funding.
- Gather data on community demographics and needs in regards to health, education, training and housing.
- Identify Members to be engaged in heritage surveys and support them to meet the role requirements.
- Identify and help to maintain and preserve significant cultural sites and physical heritage assets; and language preservation.
- Contribute to internal cultural capability initiatives and assist with the coordination of culturally significant events.
To be considered for this role you will have:
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Sound report writing skills.
- An understanding of Gumala programs and projects.
- A Cert III in Community Services or relevant equivalent qualification or experience.
- A valid C-class drivers’ licence – preferably with 4-wheel driving experience.
- Strong computer skills.
- Resilience and empathy.
- Case Management experience is highly desirable.
