The Role

You will have the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the strategy and financial future of Guroo Learning helping us mature our financial systems and processes, make strategic decisions, maximise our revenue and profitability, model future opportunities and seek further investment. Responsibilities 

The responsibilities of the role include, but are not limited to:

Financial Planning and Commercial Analysis:

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Developing the company's financial plan, including budgets for revenue, expenses, and capital expenditures. 
  • Revenue & Scenario Modeling: Modelling of revenue based on pricing, customer activity and strategic opportunities.  
  • Pricing Analysis: Developing and maintaining the company’s price list and pricing model for services and recurring revenue including profitability analysis and adjustment. 
  • Enterprise Deal Modeling: Support the CEO and Chief Growth Officer (CGO) in modelling for large enterprise and complex deals.
  • Opportunity and Investment Modeling: Collaborate with the CEO and CGO  to model the revenue and cost impacts of strategic opportunities and investments, including seeking additional capital for growth. 
  • Cash Flow Management: Ensuring the company has sufficient cash flow to meet its ongoing obligations and make strategic investments.
  • Financial & KPI Reporting: Overseeing the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements (monthly), such as the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement, progress to budget as well as reporting key KPIs, such as enrolment activity, that drive revenue and performance.
  • Cost Management: Identifying and implementing cost-saving measures to improve the company's profitability.

Accounting Operations:

  • Accounting System Owner: Be the owner of our account systems including Xero. 
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable: Manage, optimise and systematise accounts payable and receivable with the support of the Studio Manager, functional leads and external accountants.
  • Payroll Processing: Ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time, adhering to tax regulations and other payroll-related legal requirements.
  • General Ledger: Set up and Maintain the company's general ledger, recording all financial transactions, and reconciling accounts to ensure their accuracy, including balancing revenue and payments in advance. 
  • Internal Controls: Establishing and maintaining internal controls to safeguard the company's financial assets and ensure the accuracy of financial reporting.
  • Asset Register: manage and maintain the company asset register. 
  • Compliance: Staying up-to-date on relevant accounting standards and tax regulations and ensuring the company adheres to them.
  • Managing External Accountants: Manage external accounts to process BAS, PAYG Withholding Tax, FBT, State Payroll Tax and Superannuation payments for multiple entities and other outsourced accounting support activities as required.

About You 

  • You will be an experienced accountant, financial controller or other commercial role with 5+ years professional experience
  • Hold a relevant accounting degree (CPA or CA preferred). 
  • Experience in a fast-paced growth environment within a startup or SME environment.
  • Possess a strong understanding of financial accounting principles, and financial analysis and modelling skills.
  • Have prior experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling.
  • Curious about business, shaping strategy and contributing to discussion about growth opportunities.
  • Are proficient in financial software (preferably Xero).
  • Are a clear and concise communicator with exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Thrive in a hands-on environment and are eager to learn new things and grow.
  • An interest in education and the power of technology to scale the impact of learning on individuals and organisations.

Organisational Structure

The Finance & Commercial Director reports to the CEO and will be supported by external accounting resources and working closely with the Studio Manager in managing services revenue  and the Chief Growth Officer in managing pipeline and recurring revenue.
