​West Kimberley Money Management Program is the Winun Ngari Aboriginal Corporations Financial Wellbeing and Capability Program providing financial literacy education, counselling and support to Derby and the surrounding communities.

About the Opportunity

Winun Ngari has the opportunity for a Financial Counsellor to support people in managing their finances, making informed choices and to build long term capability in relation to budgeting. 

We have positions available in both a fixed term full-time and casual capacity. We will also consider FlFO or DIDO from Broome, we are open and flexible to an alternative arrangement. 

This role focuses on delivering education, direct case work and advocacy through the Financial Counselling, Capability and Resilience program based in Derby.

Job Description

Reporting to and working under the supervision of the WKMM Manager, and as a key member of the Financial Counselling team, you will provide:

  • Monitor case management and support for individuals, families and community groups;
  • Conduct assessments and referrals of clients to alternative agencies or support services to assist them with issues impacting on their financial management;
  • Develop and deliver community education and information sessions on a range of financial management topics;
  • Assist with the coordination and compilation of basic reports against KPI’s.

Skills and Experience

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in a financial counselling role or similar field.
  • Certificate III in Community Services (Financial Counselling) or equivalent financial qualification.
  • A high level of computer literacy, including competency with excel spreadsheets.
  • An understanding of issues facing low income, disadvantaged people in the Derby and surrounding communities.
  • Ability to work autonomously when required, spending extended lengths of time in remote communities.
  • Ability to act confidentiality, respecting client's personal and private information.
  • Current Australian driver's license.
  • Ability to travel 4WD on unsealed roads over long distances.
  • Valid WA Working with Children's check

Desirable 

Financial Counselling Diploma

Previous experience in a remote Indigenous Community is highly desirable but not essential.
