Financial Counsellor
Financial Counsellors provide information, options, advocacy, and support to assist people dealing with a wide range of financial issues.
About the position:
- 24 hours per week
- Based in Coffs Harbour with possible outreach to Bellingen and Urunga
- Salary as per SCHADS award based on experience and qualifications.
- Three-month probationary period with extensions based on funding availability.
Essential Criteria
- Diploma of Financial Counselling
- Current membership with FCAN (Financial Counsellors Association of NSW) or another State peak body and FCA (Financial Counselling Australia) registration number.
- Demonstrated counselling, communication, negotiation, advocacy & networking skills.
- Thorough understanding of the Credit Code, Banking Code of practice, Bankruptcy
- Legislation & other regulations governing the industry.
- Sound understanding of social justice principles and ability to work in cross cultural and Aboriginal communities.
- Understanding of the issues in rurally isolated, disadvantaged communities
- Demonstrated ability to undertake essential reporting procedures
- Well-developed computer skills
- Current driver’s licence and comprehensively insured vehicle
- Ability to work as part of an established financial counselling team
Desirable Criteria
- Gambling counselling skills units
- Community Education experience
- Experience in Prisons financial counselling.
