About the Role:
The Fire Management Officer undertakes a range of Fire Management activities in the region that contribute to mitigating the impacts of bushfires on life, property and the environment while promoting improved ecological and biodiversity
outcomes on parks and reserves to achieve best practice bushfire mitigation and land management objectives. The role also supports the delivery of a tenure-blind fuel reduction program across the landscape.
- The threat and impact of bushfires on life, property and the environment is reduced by actively participating in bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations.
- Regional Fire Management activities and works programs are planned and delivered in a timely manner, including the development and review of Fire Management plans.
- Fire monitoring is conducted to support DEW Fire Management planning and operations.
- Regional brigades are managed, including the delivery of high quality education and training programs.
- Effective engagement and consultation of stakeholders and the community.
- All work is undertaken in a safe, efficient and timely manner that aligns with DEW Policies and Procedures.
- The DEW fire fleet is maintained to operational standards and fit for purpose, including ensuring repairs and breakdowns are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.

Essential Qualifications:
- A degree in Natural Science, Natural Resources Management or similar is essential.
Special Conditions:
- The role is located in Kangaroo Island.
- Will be required to participate in Fire Management or associated duties including prescribed burning and emergency operations.
- A current class “C” driver’s licence and willingness and ability to safely operate a 4wd is essential.
- Will be required to wear a uniform and appropriate PPE in accordance with Departmental policy.
- Will be required to undertake a medical and fitness assessment to a minimum standard for a Fire Fighting Role Classification as per the DEW Fire Policy and Procedures and be required to participate in emergency operations.
- Will be required to undertake intra or interstate travel which may require the incumbent to be away from home for extended periods.
- Will be required to work outside of the normal hours of work including weekends, public holidays, after hours
meetings and days of significant fire danger. - Will be required to participate on a roster system for duties associated with emergency response including on call and standby arrangements.
- Remote area travel is required, including travel in light aircraft.
- A current First Aid Certificate is essential.
- This role has been designated as a Position of Trust pursuant to the standards required in the Australian Government Protective Security Policy Framework. By applying for this role you consent to being screened under the process of obtaining a National Police Clearance (NPC), and to the Department requiring you to obtain an NPC.
Remuneration:
PO1 $67,466 min - $82,359 max p.a.
