Melville Senior High School (SHS) is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic First Aid Officer to join their fantastic team.
The First Aid Officer is the primary contact for the management and administration of First Aid in the School.
The successful applicant will contribute to the health and welfare of students, staff, and volunteers by providing First Aid as needed and within their level of training, experience, the Department’s provisions on First Aid in the workplace and the relevant Occupational Safety and Health Legislation. Skills and experience in supporting or providing First Aid is a requirement of this role.
The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising students in self-administration of prescribed medication as documented, oversee the monitoring of student health and medical plans and coordinating with parents/guardians to collect sick or injured students remaining with them until their parent/guardian arrives. The successful applicant will report and maintain records of all injuries and illnesses where First Aid has been provided and act as a central point for communication and coordination between First Aiders.
The First Aid Officer should have a good standard of clerical and administrative skills to support the Student Services team including, maintaining student attendance, records and databases as well as managing processes to ensure staff First Aid qualifications are maintained, ordering of resources, and maintaining confidentiality. The role requires sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with students, staff, and families in emergency situations.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):
- Relevant knowledge and expertise in First Aid and associated qualifications.
- Sound interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff at all levels and in emergency situations.
- Experience in effective record management, activity recording and ability to use a range of software applications.
- Sound organisational skills to develop effective administrative practices with the ability to work independently and to seek support when required and implement recommendations

Eligibility and training requirements
Employees will be required to:
- hold a current certificate in Occupational First Aid (HLTSS00068)
- provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
- consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
- obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
- complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
- complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
- complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
- complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
