Job description

Relationships Australia Victoria (RAV) is a secular, community-based, not-for-profit organisation with no religious affiliations who have been providing services to the Victorian community for over 75 years.  Our vision is for “positive, respectful, safe and fulfilling relationships for all Australians”.

The Gippsland Youth Enhanced Service (YES) will provide enhanced support to young people 12-25 years of age who are living with, or at risk of severe and complex Mental Health issues, and who require a greater level of support than what can be provided by GPs, private clinicians, headspace services and school counsellors. Often referred to as the system’s ‘missing middle’, the needs of this cohort of young people are typically considered to be too complex to be met by the primary Mental Health care system, but not acute enough for the tertiary Mental Health system. The program will include holistic and high-quality Mental Health and psycho-social supports that will be continuously adapted to meet the changing needs of young people.

The role

Reporting to the Manager, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team to support the social and emotional wellbeing of First Nations and non-Aboriginal young people with complex Mental Health concerns. Engaging with clinical staff and key stakeholders, you will build trust, security, and comfort for First Nations young people and their families. You will use a young person-centred approach to complete culturally appropriate biopsychosocial Mental Health assessments, risk assessments and managing risk presentations.

We are seeking a part-time candidate to work at our Bairnsdale centre for four (4) days per week (including Tuesday evening shifts). This position is fixed term contract until June 2025, with potential to move to a permanent contract, subject to funding of the program.

About you

  • Diploma or Certificate of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care and/or Degree qualified in an allied health discipline including social work, Mental Health nursing, occupational therapy or psychology.
  • Experience, knowledge and understanding of working with First Nations People and their community.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with a diverse range of people, engage with young people and advocate on their behalf.
  • Self-identification as a First Nations person with a deep understanding of and connection to First Nations culture, traditions and values.

We provide

  • Competitive salary including meal/entertainment and salary packaging.
  • Hybrid and flexible working arrangements to support work-life balance.
  • Generous employment conditions and benefits including additional paid leave benefits - parental, study, personal and compassionate, flexible, family violence leave as well as paid ex-gratia leave between Christmas and New Year.
  • Access to professional development and training including our Registered Training Organisation programs where we provide accredited and non-accredited courses.
  • Best practice clinical supervision and support through a comprehensive Employee Assistance Program.
  • Career progression opportunities internally across Melbourne Metropolitan and Regional Victoria centres.

The base salary range is $92k-$99k (pro-rata) per annum.

Apply

We encourage candidates to apply as soon as possible by sending their application and resume so we can progress to interviews.  You can view the position description for further information.  If you have a specific query contact Cate Chaiyot, Manager Youth Mental Health Services by phoning 0418 463 ***.

This role is an Aboriginal designated position, classified under the Equal Opportunity Act (2010) Section 12 - Special Measures. Only Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

Applications close 17 May 2024.

COVID-19 compliance

Candidates will be required to provide evidence of their COVID-19 vaccination status or medical exemption during their application process.

RAV is committed to building and supporting an inclusive and diverse workforce and encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, those from cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTIQA+ communities and people with disabilities. We are committed to the safety of our clients and staff and promote a child-safe work environment. We recognise the lifelong impacts of childhood trauma and recognise those who had children taken away from them. All staff must undergo a National Police Check, International Police Check (if applicable) and Working with Children Check. RAV is a public benevolent institution.
