Your new team
Forming part of the Orygen Specialist Program (OSP), a program of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, the Custodial Forensic Youth Mental Health Service (FYMHS) team provides specialist Youth Mental Health care in custodial settings (Parkville and Cherry Creek sites) to young people and their families/carers.
Custodial FYMHS is in an exciting period of significant growth as a result of the Royal Commission and evolution of Victorian Mental Health Services. Our specialist multidisciplinary team provide enhanced services to young people in custody, with a focus on recovery-oriented care.
Your new role
Join us in a newly created specialist role supporting with the expansion of the specialist team within Custodial FYMHS. We are excited to welcome an enthusiastic, passionate and experienced Art Therapist to play a crucial role in enhancing the care and assistance provided to young people in custody, focusing on developing relationships that foster hope and optimism. Feel supported as you work amongst a passionate, inclusive and supportive multidisciplinary team and have access to regular professional development (internal & external) and supervision.
In this role, you will:
- Provide a service that is designed and facilitates play and art as a therapeutic tool that meets the needs of young people in custody and Custodial FYMHS.
- Participate in art therapy directed OSP-wide projects.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of frameworks relevant to art therapy methods, while exploring associated Mental Health concepts.
- Provide therapeutic interventions using a variety of methodologies including visual arts, drawing, paining, sculpture, sand and play therapy.
- Be based across Parkville & Cherry Creek Youth Justice Precincts. As such, travel to the workplace destination can be included within the working hours.
About You:
- A compassionate, dynamic, patient and inclusive professional with experience supporting young people to work through emotional dysregulation, interpersonal conflicts and behavioural challenges
- Relevant ANZACATA registration and qualifications (see position description for details)
- Comprehensive experience in art therapy within the Mental Health field, ideally including young people experiencing Mental Health and/or behavioural challenges.
- Knowledge of the youth justice and/or criminal justice system and other relevant settings is desirable.
